Scranton beat Syracuse 1-0 thanks to a Greg Golson home run. Dustin Mosley was placed on the DL and called Kevin Whelan up. Jesus Montero continued his hot hitting, going 3-4 with a double.

Trenton rallied past Akron 4-3 scoring all their runs in the 7th inning. Austin Krum and Damon Sublett provided the fireworks the Thunder needed yesterday. The pitching is a good sign for the Thunder so far.

Tampa lost 7-3 to Clearwater behind and awful outing from Andrew Brackman.

West Virginia blanked Charleston 2-0 spoiling another nice outing from Graham Stoneburner. The Riverdogs had a chance with a bases loaded, no out situation in the 7th but couldn't come through.

Here's the organizational recap from Minor League Splits.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre

  • Starter Dustin Mosely had some sort of forearm injury and will miss his next start. Scranton activated Kevin Whelan as well. Whelan has great stuff but has never been able to harness it. Since Mosely is only missing one start, I'd expect the bullpen to just eat up the innings that day.

  • Center fielder Greg Golson hit his first home run of the season. The owner of the best first name in the farm system hit only two homers in 500 PA last season after hitting 13 in 2008. His ridiculous athleticism will always make him someone to keep an eye on.

  • Jesus Montero had his best Triple-A performance. He went 3 for 4 and now has a team high .321 batting average.

  • Zach McAllister had a pretty poor second start. He only lasted four innings and threw 87 pitches. He struck out two, walked four, and gave up six hits.

Trenton

  • Ryan Pope gave up only one run in five innings, but he walked three batters and only struck out three. He also got six flyouts and only five groundouts.

  • Grant Duff is acting as closer for Trenton. This is not something the Yankees typically do with their relief prospects; they like to keep their workload more monitored. This may suggest that the Yankees don't really have long-term plans for Duff and he'd have to force their hand.

  • Hitting his first home run of the season was Damon Sublett, who is now hitting .182 on the year.

  • Trenton is really having a hard time hitting the ball. In today's lineup, no one had a batting average over .250 except for the ridiculously hot David Adams.

Tampa

  • Down in Tampa, the Yankees got another disconcerting performance from Andrew Brackman. He gave up six runs in the first inning and his final line was 4 IP, 10 H, 7 ER, 1 BB, and 0 K. Nothing is going well for Brack right now. His velocity is down, his stuff is down, and his results are down.

  • Abraham Almonte showed off some good plate discipline, going 1 for 2 with three walks and a strikeout. He's off to a nice start this season.

  • The Phillies' A+ affiliate really had their way with the heart of the lineup, getting the 2-5 hitters to strike out 11 times.

Charleston

  • Graham Stoneburner had his second impressive start to begin his career. He pitched 6.2 innings, allowed just two hits and one earned run while striking out seven and walking just one. He now has 14 strikeouts through just 11 innings.

  • On the offensive side of the ball, the team didn't get it done and was shut out. Kyle Higashioka is off to a very slow start, hitting just .105 so far this season. This offense doesn't look like it will be very good, but it would be nice if guys like Higashioka and Jimmy Paredes started hitting a bit.

Scranton beat Rochester 4-3 on a late clutch hit from Jesus Montero. Kei Igawa got bailed out from the loss. Scranton starts a set against Syracuse tonight.

Trenton lost to Akron 4-2 again. Lance Pendleton was shaky in his first start. Austin Romine may be the biggest prospect in Trenton, but David Adams has stolen the show.

Tampa beat Clearwater 3-2. Hector Noesi was fantastic again, along with Pat Vindette.

Charleston also won 3-2 over West Virginia. Luke Murton's bottom of the 9th RBI single was the difference. Deangelo Mack had a nice night.

Minor League Splits doesn't have it's organizational recap up to date, so here's a quick summary from the Scranton Yankees blog, and the Down on the Farm from Mike Axisa which I'm sure you've already read.

There were just some interesting things around the farm system I wanted to take note of today:

  • Pat Venditte pitched two shutout innings, allowing one hit and striking out four. EJ Fagan at TYU noted that the Yankees may have changed Venditte's scheduling which would suggest that they now consider him a legitimate prospect. The true tell will be if they promote him to Trenton soon, because it seems like he has proven A-ball is not a challenge. Speaking of people dominating A-ball...

  • Hector Noesi had is second great start in as many attempts this season. Today, he pitched six innings, striking out ten without giving up a single walk. He did give up two runs on three hits(one home run), though. He now has a 16:1 strikeout to walk ratio through twelve innings. I figured he'd start this season in Trenton, and I would guess that he'll be there soon enough regardless.

  • Ivan Nova got his second start of the season and also pitched well. In seven innings, he allowed one run on five hits and a walk while striking out seven. On the season, he has struck out 11 and walked just one in 11 innings. He got off to a blistering start last season, too. Hopefully this time he can keep it up.

  • Who is Shaeffer Hall? Charleston's opening day starter got his second start of the season today and pitched well again. In his two starts, the 22-year-old out of the University of Kansas has allowed just one run while striking out nine and walking none in 13.2 innings.

  • Where is some prospect power? David Adams has been mashing the ball(.616 wOBA) and has hit one home run; Juan Miranda has one too, but after them there haven't been any other homers and very few extra base hits in general. I'm sure some of them will pick it up, but the lack of power in this farm system is always a bit disconcerting.

Scranton rallied to win 6-5 in extra innings over Rochester last night. The missing offense finally showed up. Robby Hammock, an unlikely hero, delivered for Scranton.

Trenton lost to Akron 5-1, the first loss of the season for the Thunder. DJ Mitchell struggled in his first start for Trenton, but David Adams remained hot. John Van Benschoten is happy to be pitching again. The former first round draft pick, now 30, is just glad to be pitching. Christian Garcia says thank you to the fans.

Tampa lost 4-3 to Clearwater, mostly due to a poor defensive outing. Tampa will be sharing it's field with "FC Tampa", a second tier professional soccer club this year. Steinbrenner field is an interesting choice for a soccer team.

A poor defensive 8th inning led to West Virginia's win over Charleston 6-5. You've heard of the Joe Girardi show? Well how about the Charleston version, "Tuesdays with Colby"? Sounds like a blast. Charleston now has 13 errors in 5 games so far.
