The Yankees had recently DFA'd Eric Hacker to free up a spot on the 40 man roster. When you do that, you lose all bargaining leverage and pretty much take what you can get. That being said, the Yanks were able to obtain someone who will probably pitch in the majors for them at some point.

Baseball America ranked Sanchez the 25th best prospect in the pirates system this past offseason and they said he can hit 98 on the radar gun. With an arm like that, he has a chance to be in middle relief and will be immediately sent to the Scranton bullpen. What this does is just adds another possible relief arm, as the Yanks clearly believe in the throw a ton of arms in there and see what sticks philosophy.

Personally, I would rather have Hacker than Sanchez, but given the circumstances, I think this was a solid move for the Yankees. So far this season, Sanchez has pitched well, with a FIP of 3.28, much better than his career number of 4.66. Could be a small sample size issue, but the fact that he has 15 strikeouts in 12.1 innings is a promising sign.
