Tampa Yankees- Florida State League-West
Austin Romine- .282/.302/.462 8BB/43K, 5 SBS, 8 HRs, 18 2Bs,232 AB's, .333 .wOBA
The biggest problem Romine has exhibited so far this season is the plate discipline. The OBP is terrible and having a .19 BB/K ratio is awful. He's still exhibiting good power in his swing though and if he can take some more walks it would help to really improve his value.
Matt Cusick- .282/.363/.402 16BB/11K, 9 2Bs, 1 HR, 1 SB, 117 AB's, .369 .wOBA
Cusick was given to the Yankees from the Astros for LaTroy Hawkins way back when and he's been a pleasant surprise so far this year. The third basemen splits time with Brandon Laird but has held his own so far. Some more extra base hits would help out Cusick expand on his early season success here in 2009. He's struggled somewhat against lefties as well in his career (he hits lefty) and if he can turn that around he could turn in a very nice looking season.
Dellin Betances- 2-4 4.75 ERA, 43 IP, 43K/23BB, 1.02 GO/AO, 3.78 FIP
Betances has spent some time on the DL this season but has put up alright numbers for one of the top arms in the organization. The 21 year old has had ups and downs but needs to be a little more consistent with his starts and work deeper into games. He can still struggle with command occasionally but Betances has pitched well so far in 2009.
Jeremy Bleich- 5-4 3.58 ERA, 73 IP, 50K/21BB, 1.33 GO/AO, 3.70 FIP
Bleich is having a great year for Tampa. The 2008 lefty was our highest draft choice and he has not wilted before expectations so far. His success isn't predicated on strikeouts (would like to see a higher k/9 than 5.8) he keeps the ball on the ground 51% of the time. If he continues to excel in Tampa I would be curious to see if the Yankees test him in AA.
Lance Pendleton- 5-4 3.47 ERA, 62 IP, 48K/21BB, .68 GO/AO, 3.20 FIP
Pendleton has been another surprise this year for Tampa. Originally a 2005 4th round pick out of Rice, Pendleton had Tommy John surgery and has moved slowly through the organization. He's done relatively well at each level however. He started 2009 as a reliever but has now made 11 starts for Tampa. I couldn't find a scouting report on him at all so I have no idea if he still has any of his power stuff after the surgery but he's certainly having a nice season so far.
