Continuing our system all-star series, where we take a look at the top performers by position across the Yankees farm system.

Infielders

Jesus Montero - Catcher, A+/AA

.330/.389/.551, 15 Home Runs, .393 wOBA in AA, .464 wOBA in A+

There isn't more I can tell you about Montero that you don't already know. He was recently rated the #3 prospect in baseball by Baseball America. Also, firstinning.com just released their midseason top 100 prospect list, and Montero turned in at #11 there. Regardless of position, Montero's bat has carried him to be one of the top prospects in baseball. I've said it many times before, but will stay it again: Keep Montero at catcher until he proves he can't handle the position. He's still so young that I have hope he can improve enough to be adequate back there.

Jorge Vazquez - First Base, AA

.329/.357/.578, 13 Home Runs, .414 wOBA

The Mexican league veteran has brought his power with him to the USA. He has hit 13 home runs and has a slugging percentage of .578 and a wOBA of .414, but he has shown no plate discipline.  His walk rate of 3.4% is frightening, especially when paired with his 20% strikeout rate. At 27 years old, Vazquez needs to quickly improve his strike zone control and defense if he wants to have a career in the majors.

David Adams - Second Base, A/A+

.283/.373/.395, 1 Home Run, 8 Stolen Bases, .358 wOBA in A, .339 wOBA in A+(76 PA)

The Yankees 3rd round pick in 2008 has pretty much delivered what has been expected of him. He has not done a lot to stand out but has been solid all around. He has shown the polish of a college graduate with a strong on-base percentage, but he is not someone I'm very excited about. I just don't see the ceiling here that I would want the Yankees to use their 3rd round picks on. Power is the last tool to develop, so maybe that is what the Yanks are looking for.

Kevin Russo - Second Base/Third Base/Shortstop, AAA

.289/.362/.332, 0 Home runs, 9 Stolen Bases, .336 wOBA

A personal favorite of mine, Russo was the subject of my first post here at Pending Pinstripes. His power has been lacking so far this season, but he has kept up a good BB:K Ratio of 22:26. He has been getting playing time at third base and shortstop, giving him a lot of versatility, but has spent the majority of his games at second base. He continues to raise his stock as a future utility type.

Reegie Corona - Shortstop/Second Base, AA

.292/.402/.399, 3 HR, .373 wOBA

Another light hitting future utility type like Russo, Corona has impressed with his improved plate discipline. He has walked 46 times and has only struck out 37 times. It seems like Corona has been around forever, but he is still only 22 years old. After what he has done this season, I see him having a major league career in his future. I bet the Yankees are glad they got him back from the Mariners, as he is looking very good this season. While neither him nor Russo really profile as starters, we can take solace in the fact that we won't have to see any more Miguel Cairo's or Tony Womack's for a long time.

Alternates:

Corban Joseph - 3B/2B, A: .273/.355/.414, .354 wOBA

Austin Romine - Catcher, A+: .282/.314/.469, .347 wOBA

Damon Sublett - 2B/CF, A+: .260/.363/.393, .362 wOBA

Juan Miranda - 1B/DH, AAA: .267/.357/.455, .358 wOBA
