So That’s Why They’re Called The Evil Empire

In case you hadn't heard, MLB Advanced Media sent a cease and desist letter to The Yankee Universe. They are unhappy with the name of the blog, as it is similar to Yankees Universe, the Red Sox Nation-esque thing the Yankees started earlier this year, and a charity working to preventcancer. You can read the full cease and desist letter in this PDF. At first, I wasn't sure to think. Based on what they are saying in the letter, it seems to me that removing all Yankee logos and putting a disclaimer on the site should be all that was necessary.

After talking to MLBAM, it appears that wasn't the case. After reading EJ Fagan's response, I am fully convinced that the Yankees and MLBAM should allow them to keep their blog name. Head over and read their response for yourself, because EJ puts it much better than I could. The guys at The Yankee Universe are good guys and obviously aren't doing anything to hurt the Yankees' image and/or take away from the charity with a similar name. I hope that the Yankees and MLBAM realize that they're handling this the wrong way, back down, and let The Yankee Universe continue to exist. If not, at least hook them up with some serious cash in exchange for the domain name.
