Scouting Melky Mesa

Mike Newman of Scouting the Sally hooks us up with a full scouting report on Melky Mesa. The takeaway line is, "At this point, to consider Mesa as anything more than a lottery ticket would be a mistake as his biggest weakness[his struggles against breaking balls] is arguably the most difficult to remedy." Lots of good stuff in this report from Newman, so go check it out for yourself.

I fully agree with him about Mesa. I was surprised that Baseball America included him in their top 20 SAL prospects and when he made a top 10 yankee prospect list. The guy has tools but I just can't get excited about him until he shows a better approach at the plate. That's why he didn't make Pending Pinstripes' top 30 prospects.
