It's no secret we love him around here but Neil Medchill is starting to get some more attention for the great work he's been doing in Staten Island this year.
He's currently hitting .288/.352/.575 with 10 HRs, 12 2Bs, 6 SBs and 30 RBIs. Recently he's really cooled off, hitting a paltry .194/.265/.333 in August with only 1 HR. And despite the good numbers he tends to strike out a lot while not walking very much (15BB/44Ks).
The NY Post article mostly discusses the work ethic and mindset that have helped Medchill too stand out in Staten Island this year:
"He's asking baseball questions of the staff that are a couple levels above where he's playing right now. . . He's talking about where to play different hitters, how to shade certain counts in the outfield. He's talking about looking for certain pitches, certain pitchers' patterns. It's outstanding stuff, and we love it."
Medchill was a pick we really liked in the 11th round and it's nice to see that his great start has gotten some media attention in New York. Hopefully he can make some improvements and continue to impress.
