According to this article from nj.com, José Tabata, who was suspended for 3 games after slamming his bat and leaving the game early (in the 7th inning), was so upset that he even contemplated asking for his release. But cooler heads prevailed, and after talking to his wife, Tabata calmed down.

I just felt like I had to go," Tabata said in an exclusive interview with The Times yesterday. "It was a rash decision, but after talking to my wife, she asked me if this was really what I wanted to do and if leaving (the team) was the right decision to make. I thought about it a little and realized I am not a quitter. I was either going to face the consequences, learn from this and grow, or I was going to run away. So, here I am.

While Tabata has been terrible at the plate so far this season, has reportedly looked overweight and shown some lack of maturity, maybe this will be a chance for him to turn over a new leaf and get himself back on the right track. He has evidently been feeling a lot of pressure to perform, and his early-season struggles have evidently gotten him down. But maybe with a new outlook and some newfound maturity, the talented teenager will be able to get himself out of his slump and start hitting like we know he can. In other news, per Chad Jennings, Juan Miranda has been placed on the 7-day DL with a shoulder injury. It does not sound like a very severe injury, but nonetheless, it gives Eric Duncan a chance to solidify his status as the first callup in the event of an injury to a 1st baseman on the Yanks.
