Scranton defeats Pawtucket, 9-4
  • Kei Igawa got the start, and pitched very effectively. Over 7 2/3 innings, he gave up 2 runs on 8 hits (1 homer) with 4 strikeouts. Does this mean I want to see him get a spot start? God no, but I am impressed with how he has handled himself in AAA.
  • Scott Patterson pitched a perfect 9th.
  • Brett Gardner was 1 for 3 with 2 walks and his 19th stolen base. His recent walking spree has gotten his OBP over .400 (to .404), and he has a very impressive 36:40 walk:strikeout ratio, indicating that he has been very disciplined at the plate this season. If he keeps this up, Melky Cabrera had better start watching his back.
  • Alberto Gonzalez was 3 for 5 with a double.
  • Jason Lane was 2 for 5 with 2 strikeouts.
  • Cody Ransom was 2 for 5 with a homer, but struck out twice.
  • Eric Duncan was 1 for 5 with a golden sombrero, as he struck out 4 times.
  • Greg Porter was 2 for 4 with a walk.
Trenton falls to New Hampshire, 5-4 (11 innings)
  • Eric Hacker got the start, and pitched very well in his Eastern League debut. In 4 innings of work (not sure why he only pitched 4, maybe pitch count), the 25 year-old righty gave up 2 runs (1 earned) on 2 hits and 3 walks, and struck out 7.
  • Eric Wordekemper gave up a run on 2 hits and a walk in 2 innings, and also struck out 2. His ERA is 4.91 in what has been a disappointing season for him overall, given his past dominance at lower levels.
  • Anthony Claggett gave up 2 hits and 3 walks in 2 innings, but did not allow a run while striking out 2.
  • Ramiro Pena was 1 for 4 with a walk.
  • Austin Jackson was 0 for 5 with 3 strikeouts.
  • Colin Curtis and Edwar Gonzalez were each 1 for 5.
  • Cody Ehlers and Jose Tabata were both 1 for 4 with a walk. Ehlers had a double, and Tabata raised his average to .238.
  • Kevin Russo was 2 for 5.
  • Reegie Corona was 1 for 4.
Tampa shut out by Lakeland, 4-0
  • Michael Dunn got the start, and pitched pretty well. In 5 innings, the lefty gave up 2 runs (1 earned) on 5 hits and 2 walks, and fanned 4.
  • Kevin Whelan gave up 2 runs on 2 hits and 2 walks in 2 innings of relief (that's a lot of 2's). He also struck out 4.
  • Stephen Artz pitched a perfect inning in relief of Whelan.
  • Mitch Hilligoss had 1 of only 2 hits for the Yankees, going 1 for 4.
  • Jose Gil had the other hit, going 1 for 3.
Charleston had the night off. Not a very exciting night for the system overall. I'll try to get another draft post up soon, discussing some picks I'd like to see the Yankees make, but not necessarily in their first few picks.
