Scranton edges out Pawtucket, 9-8
  • Dan Giese got the start, and had his first rough outing as a Yankee.  In 4 1/3 innings, Giese gave up 7 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks, with 6 strikeouts.
  • Dave Robertson gave up a run on 1 hit and 2 walks with 2 strikeouts.
  • JB Cox struck out 1 and walked 1 in 2/3 scoreless innings.  In my mind, he has surpassed Robertson on the reliever depth chart.
  • Scott Patterson gave up a hit in 2/3 scoreless innings.
  • Brett Gardner was 1 for 3 with 2 walks and 3 steals, giving him 18 on the season (in 24 attempts).
  • Jason Lane was 1 for 3 with a double and a walk.
  • Ben Broussard, newly signed, was 3 for 4 with 3 doubles and a walk.  I imagine he could get himself in the first base mix on the major league team if he hits well in AAA, and Shelley, Ensberg and Betemit struggle.
  • Cody Ransom and Justin Christian were both 2 for 5 with a double.
  • Nick Green was 2 for 3 with a walk.
  • Bernie Castro was 1 for 4 with a walk, and was caught stealing.
Trenton falls to New Hampshire, 5-3 (resumed from a suspended game)
  • Mark Melancon was the first pitcher for the Thunder (Dan McCutchen, since promoted to Scranton, pitched 3 innings before the game was suspended).  Melancon continued to impress, pitching 4 shutout innings, giving up 2 hits and a walk with 1 strikeout.  He also forced 8 groundouts against 3 flyouts.
  • Steven Jackson continued to struggle, giving up 4 runs on 5 hits and a walk in 2 innings, wiht 2 strikeouts.
  • Austin Jackson and Jose Tabata were both 2 for 4.  Jackson's average is up to .282 on the season, Tabata's is at a lofty .230.
  • Cody Ehlers was 1 for 3 with a walk.
  • Kevin Russo was 1 for 4.
Tampa defeats Lakeland (and Porcello) 4-3
  • Chris Garcia got the start, and outpitched phenom Rick Porcello.  In 5 innings, Garcia gave up 3 runs (2 earned) on 3 hits and 3 walks, while striking out 5.  Chris's ERA is 1.72 since returning from TJ rehab.
  • Porcello gave up 4 runs (3 earned) on 10 hits in 6 innings, and struck out 4.
  • Damon Sublett was 1 for 2, then was replaced by Chris Kunda for an unknown reason.
  • Luis Nunez was 3 for 5.
  • Andres Perez was 3 for 4.
  • Jose Gil was 2 for 4 with a double.
  • Kyle Anson was 1 for 4 with his 3rd homer of the year.
  • Kevin Smith was 1 for 4 with a double.
Charleston blanks Augusta, 2-0
  • Lance Pendleton got the start, and was very impressive.  In 6 shutout innings, Pendleton struck out 5 and allowed 4 hits, with no walks.
  • Adam Olbrychowski was effective in relief again, giving up just 1 hit and 1 walk in 3 innings of work, with 2 strikeouts.
  • Austin Krum was 1 for 4 with 3 strikeouts.
  • Justin Snyder was 2 for 4 to raise his average to .296, but also made his 13th fielding error.
  • Jesus Montero was 1 for 4 with his 6th homer of the season.
  • Austin Romine was 0 for 4 to drop his average to an even .300.
  • Braedyn Pruitt was 2 for 3 with a walk.
  • Carmen Angelini was 1 for 4 with 2 strikeouts.
  • Donald Hollingsworth, added to the roster to replace the injured Dave Williams, was 1 for 2.
Good day overall for the prospects, but I still can't get over that miserable loss by the big club.
