Scranton defeats Indianapolis, 5-1
  • Dan Giese had another great start, giving up a run on 6 hits and 1 walk in 7 innings while striking out 5.  Unfortunately for Giese, this raised his ERA to 1.01 on the season, which shows how dominant he has been.
  • Dave Robertson pitched a perfect inning of relief, throwing only 8 pitches.
  •  Chris Britton pitched a scoreless 9th, striking out 2.
  • Bernie Castro was 1 for 4.
  • Brett Gardner was 0 for 2 with a walk and a sacrifice.
  • Jason Lane was 1 for 4 with his 9th home run and 2 k's.
  • Eric Duncan was 0 for 3.
  • Cody Ransom was 1 for 3 with a homer and a strikeout.
Trenton tops Reading, 5-2
  • Jason Jones continued to impress, giving up a run on 6 hits and no walks in 6 innings, with 1 strikeout.  His ERA is now 2.13 on the season.
  • Anthony Claggett gave up a run on 3 hits and 1 walk in 2 innings of work, and also struck out 2.
  • Ramiro Pena was 2 for 5 with a double.
  • Austin Jackson was 1 for 3 with 2 walks and a strikeout, and his average is up to a respectable .275, with a .375 OBP and .409 slugging for an OPS of .780
  • Colin Curtis was 1 for 3 with a homer and 2 walks.
  • Jose Tabata was 0 for 4 to drop his average to .229.
  • PJ Pilittere was 1 for 3 with a walk.
  • Reegie Corona was 1 fo r4.
Tampa blanks Daytona, 5-0
  • Chris Garcia was dominant in his second start of the season since returning from Tommy John surgery.  In 6 shutout innings, the 22 year-old righty gave up just 2 hits and a walk, with 10 strikeouts.
  • Kevin Whelan struck out 2, walked 2, and gave up a hit in 2 innings of scoreless relief.
  • Josh Schmidt, recently demoted in favor of Alfredo Aceves, pitched a perfect 9th.
  • Damon Sublett was 2 for 4 with a walk.
  • Mitch Hilligoss, who has struggled with the bat this season, was 4 for 5 to raise his average to .241.  He also stole 2 bases.
  • Seth Fortenberry was 1 for 4 with a homer.
  • Tim Battle was 1 for 4 with a stolen base.
Charleston over Greenville, 5-2
  • Lance Pendleton got the start, and was very effective.  In 6 scoreless innings, the righty from Rice gave up just 1 hit and 3 walks, while striking out 3.
  • Adam Olbrychowski, back from the DL, gave up a run on 3 hits and a walk in 1 1/3 innings, with 2 strikeouts.
  • Jonathan Ortiz pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings for the save.
  • Austin Krum was 3 for 5.
  • Justin Snyder was 1 for 4 with a walk.
  • Brandon Laird was 2 for 5 with a double.
  • Jesus Montero was 1 for 4, and is hitting .307 on the season, with an .815 OPS.  He also threw out the only runner that attempted to steal on him.
  • Austin Romine, also fresh off the DL, was 1 for 3 with a double as the DH.
  • Carmen Angelini was 2 for 4, though he also made his 14th error of the season.
I imagine if Chris Garcia keeps dominating like this, he could earn a quick promotion to AA.  I don't know what he's been throwing, but from the high strikeout totals he's put up so far, his fastball velocity must be there and his nasty curveball must be in midseason form.  It's great to see such a talented prospect come back and perform so well so quickly.  The Yankees will have a tough decision on their hands if he is Rule V eligible this offseason, whether to use a valuable 40-man spot on him to prevent him from being picked.  I'll try and have a draft post up tomorrow.
