I figure that since a lot of prospect news is still in a holding pattern, I'd take a look at some interesting spring training happens going on right now.
  • Hideo Nomo has an 11/2 K/BB ratio in 11 innings for Kansas City
  • Future Cardinal star Colby Rasmus was just sent down after hitting .273/.467/.515, leading the league with 12 walks. The Cardinals might be smart to hold him back for most of the season, in order to hold off free agency for one more year.
  • Despite leading the majors in games played, former Yankee Andy Phillips is hitting just .235/.270/.353.
  • Cristian Guzman isn't dead! In fact, he's tearing the cover off the ball. In 42 at bats, Guzman is hitting .357/.400/.571.
  • Rafael Furcal already has 5 triples.
  • Cory Hart has a 16/0 K/BB ratio.
  • The young Red Sox trio of Jed Lowrie, Jacoby Ellsbury, and Dustin Pedroia are hitting a combined .163.
  • Matt DeSalvo has 6 walks and 1 strikeout in 6 innings.
  • Old friend Kevin Thompson is hitting .333/.412/.433, and could be the Pirates' new centerfielder.
  • Rule V pick Mike Gardner has a 7.11 ERA in 6.1 innings, with just 2 strikeouts and 4 walks. I had him figured to be a solid member of the Padre bullpen when he was picked, but we may be getting him back if he keeps pitching like this.
