Scranton defeats Norfolk, 5-3
  • Jeff Marquez was the starter, and he pitched very well.  In 7 innings of 1-run ball, Marquez allowed 4 hits and 2 walks, though he only struck out 1.  He clearly had his good sinker working, as he gave up 18 groundouts against 3 flyouts.
  • Dave Robertson gave up 2 runs on 4 hits in 1 2/3 innings of relief, though he did strike out 3.
  • Brett Gardner was 1 for 2 with 2 walks, and was caught stealing.
  • Ben Broussard was 2 for 4 with a home run.
  • Eric Duncan continued to rake, going 2 for 4.
  • Greg Porter was 2 for 4.
Trenton over Connecticut, 9-6
  • Alfredo Aceves had his worst outing of the season, giving up 5 runs on 8 hits (2 homers) and 2 walks in 6 innings, and also struck out 4.  His ERA on the season is still a very impressive 2.17.
  • Ramiro Pena was 2 for 5.
  • Austin Jackson was 1 for 4 with a double and 2 strikeouts.
  • Kevin Russo was 1 for 4 with 2 strikeouts.
  • Edwar Gonzalez was 1 for 5.
  • Chris Malec was 2 for 4.
  • Jose Tabata, back in the lineup, was 1 for 3 with a double and a walk.
  • Eladio Rodriguez was 2 for 4 with 2 doubles and 2 strikeouts.
  • Reegie Corona was 1 for 3 with a walk.
Tampa falls to Palm Beach, 6-2
  • Ivan Nova got the start, and got knocked around a bit.  In 5 innings, Nova gave up 6 runs on 7 hits (1 home run) and 3 walks.  He did strike out 7, however, indicating that he had good stuff.
  • Phil Bartelski struck out 6 in 3 innings of scoreless relief.
  • Stephen Artz struck out 1 in a perfect 9th.
  • Mitch Hilligoss was 2 for 4 with a double.
  • Andres Perez, Kevin Smith, and Seth Cooper were 2 for 4.
Charleston batters Rome, 13-2
  • Adam Olbrychowski started, giving up 2 runs (1 earned) in 3 innings.  He surrendered 4 hits and 1 walk, while striking out 3.
  • Wilkins De La Rosa was lights-out in relief, pitching 4 shutout innings, allowing just 1 hit and 1 walk, while striking out 5.  This lowered his ERA to 2.01.
  • Abe Almonte was 1 for 2 with 2 walks.
  • Justin Snyder was 2 for 3 with 2 doubles and 2 walks to raise his average to .303.  He also made 2 errors to give him 15 on the season (competing with Carmen Angelini for the team lead).
  • Brad Suttle was 1 for 5 with a walk.
  • Jesus Montero was 1 for 6, and fell below .300 for the first time in a while.  He's in a bit of a slump, as he is hitting .238 in his last 10 games.
  • Austin Romine was 2 for 6 to raise his average to .280.
  • Brandon Laird was 1 for 2 with 4 walks.
  •  Carmen Angelini was 1 for 3 with 3 walks.
  • Austin Krum was 3 for 4 with a double and 2 walks.
That's all for tonight.  The first day of the draft was pretty interesting to follow, and tomorrow should be great as well.  Hopefully, the Yanks will bring some more high-ceiling tough signs into the fold like Cole and Marshall.  I'll be looking closely at round 8, as that seems to be the round for an overslot signing (see Austin Jackson, Dellin Betances, Taylor Grote)
