I may not be around for the beginning of the first round, but here's a thread where we can discuss the picks as they are made, and say how we would have done better.
Update, 12:43 PM: Frank Piliere from Saberscouting, who is
liveblogging on scout.com, is projecting the top 4 in the first round to be ss Tim Beckham to the Rays, 3b Pedro Alvarez to the Pirates, 1b Eric Hosmer to the Royals, and lhp Brian Matusz to the Orioles. Additionally, it seems that ss Gordon Beckham (no relation to Tim) to the Reds at #7 is likely, as is c Kyle Skipworth to the Marlins at #6, and 1b Justin Smoak to the Giants at #5. It'll be interesting to follow Posey and Alonso, to see how far they fall.
5:00 PM: I just got home, and here are my thoughts on the draft so far. The first half went more or less as expected, with Jason Castro at 10 to Houston the only major surprise. Lonnie Chisenhall going at at 29 and Carlos Gutierrez at 27 to Minnesota seemed to be the only significant overdraft in the 1st round. It is worthy of note that Cole was the only high school player selected in the 1st round who is strictly a pitcher. There are a lot of talented pitchers remaining, including Tulane's Shooter Hunt, once a top 10 talent, Fresno State's Tanner Scheppers and high school arms Tim Melville, Jake Odorizzi, and Alex Meyer (among others). I'm interested to see what the Yankees will do in the supplemental round
