29 July 2008
- Ian Kennedy, coming off a 7-inning 1-hit performance in his last start, was great again. In 6 innings, Kennedy gave up 3 hits and 3 walks for 1 run, while striking out 5. This lowered his ERA in AAA to 2.06. I would have to think that the recently mediocre starts of Darrell Rasner and Sidney Ponson combined with Ian's recent dominance would mean that he will be back in the rotation very soon.
- Brian Bruney struck out 2 in 1 1/3 scoreless, but also allowed 3 hits and 3 walks.
- JB Cox struck out 1 and got 2 groundball outs in a perfect 9th.
- Brett Gardner was 1 for 5 with his 35th steal.
- Bernie Castro was 3 for 5 with 2 doubles.
- Matt Carson was 2 for 3 with 2 walks.
- Juan Miranda was 1 for 5.
- Cody Ransom was 2 for 4 with a walk.
- Chris Stewart was 1 for 3 with a double and a walk.
- Eric Hacker started and pitched well, giving up 2 runs on 5 hits and a walk in 6 innings, and striking out 7.
- Anthony Claggett gave up 2 runs on 3 hits and a walk in 2 innings of work.
- Wilkins Arias, recently promoted, struck out 1 in a perfect inning.
- Reegie Corona, Edwar Gonzalez, and Cody Ehlers were each 1 for 4.
- Austin Jackson was 0 for 4 with 2 strikeouts to drop his average to .292.
- Ramiro Pena was 2 for 3 with a triple and a walk.
- Chris Malec was 1 for 3 with a double and a walk.
- Seth Cooper was 1 for 3.
- Ryan Pope, who has pitched well of late, was horrendous. In 2 2/3 innings, Pope gave up 7 runs on 10 hits and 2 walks in 2 2/3 innings. This raised his ERA to 3.20, showing that he has put together a very impressive season.
- Edgar Soto struck out 4 in 4 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.
- Kevin Smith was 2 for 4 with a triple.
- Josh Kreuzer and Mitch Hilligoss were each 1 for 4.
- Kyle Anson was 0 for 2 with 2 walks.
- Carl Pavano, the Rajah of Rehab (thanks Pete Abe), made his long-awaited return from injury, and pitched very well. In 2 scoreless innings, Pavano gave up a hit and a walk, while striking out 4. No doubt the opposing batters' egoes were as bruised as Carl's buttocks once were.
- Phil Hughes, not to be overshadowed by Pavano, also made his return from injury, getting the win with 3 scoreless innings, walking 1 and allowing 2 hits, and striking out 1. Good to see him coming back on the right foot. No word on where he (and Pavano) will be next.
- Wilkins de la Rosa, back to relieving for today, gave up 2 runs on 4 hits and 3 walks in 2 innings, and struck out .
- Jonathan Ortiz struck out 2 in a perfect 9th to get his 27th save.
- Justin Snyder, Brandon Laird, Dave Williams, and Carmen Angelini were each 0 for 3.
- Brad Suttle was 1 for 4 with a double.
- Jesus Montero and Austin Romine were both 1 for 4. Romine also had his 15th passed ball of the season.
- Abe Almonte, dropped to 8th in the lineup, had his first multi-hit game in what seems like forever, going 2 for 3 with 2 triples. He also threw out a runner trying to stretch a single into a double. Hopefully this is the beginning of a turnaround for him.
- Casey Erickson started, and was great. Through 4 innings of work, Erickson gave up just a run on 2 hits and 3 walks, and struck out 9.
- Brad Rulon struck out 3 in a scoreless 9th, lowering his ERA to 0.35 as he has given up just 1 run in 25 innings.
- Addison Maruszak was 3 for 5 with his 4th homer of the season, and is hitting .315 on teh season.
- David Adams was 2 for 5 with his 2nd jack of the season, raising his average to .239.
- Brian Baisley was 2 for 5, jumping his average to .350.
- Mike Lyon was 1 for 5.
- Daniel Brewer was 2 for 5 with a double.
- Mitch Abeita was 2 for 4.

- Jose Pirela was 1 for 5.
- Corban Joseph was 3 for 4 with a double and a triple to raise his average to .283 on the season. Joseph is hitting .342 with a 1.011 OPS for the month of July. He has been showing great pop for the season, with 54 percent of his hits going for extra bases.
- Mitch Delaney was 1 for 4 with a double.
- Neall French and Emerson Landoin were each 2 for 4.
- 7th-round draft pick and overslot high school signee Kyle Higashioka made his Yankee debut at catcher, going 1 for 2.
