17 July 2008
- Ian Kennedy started, giving up a run on 2 hits and 2 walks in 2 innings.
- Brian Bruney allowed a run on 1 hit and 1 walk, and struck out 3.
- Al Aceves was great in relief, pitching 4 scoreless, while giving up just 2 hits and striking out 5.
- Justin Christian was 1 for 1 (he has since been promoted to the majors)
- JD Closser had the only other hit, going 1 for 2 with a walk.
- Dan McCutchen started, and wasn't great. In 5 1/3 innings, McCutchen gave up 4 runs on 4 hits and a walk, while striking out 7. The peripherals are pretty good, but McCutchen was hurt by surrendering 2 longballs.
- Steven Jackson and Scott Strickland combined for 1 2/3 perfect innings.
- Alberto Gonzalez was 1 for 3 with a double.
- Eric Duncan was 1 for 4 with a double and 3 k's. Typical.
- Juan Miranda was 2 for 4 with his 6th homer to raise his average to .301. He has 5 multi-hit games in his last 6, so maybe he's starting to get on a roll.
- Cody Ransom was 1 for 3 with a walk.
- Ben Broussard, playing right field, was 1 for 4.
- JD Closser was 3 for 3 with a homer.
- Chris Basak, who never seems to go away for long, was 1 for 3.
- Chase Wright started, and pitched very well. In 5 1/3 innings, the lefty gave up a run on 5 hits and 1 walk, while striking out 6.
- Anthony Claggett struck out 2 and walked 2 in a scoreless inning.
- Oneli Perez struck out the side in a perfect 9th to lower his ERA to 10.29.
- Ramiro Pena was 2 for 5 with 3 strikeouts, an error, and was caught stealing.
- Austin Jackson was 4 for 4 with 2 doubles and a walk, bringing his average all the way up to .290, the highest it has been in a while. Next step: .300.
- Chris Malec was 3 for 5 with a double.
- Colin Curtis was 2 for 5, and also had an outfield assist.
- Seth Cooper was 2 for 4 with a double.
- Walter Ibarra was 1 for 3 with a double and a walk.
- Lance Pendleton was the starter, giving up 4 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks in 5 innings, while striking out 5. This raised his ERA to 3.28, still very solid.
- Chase Vacek struck out 3 in 2 perfect innings.
- Abe Almonte was 1 for 5 with a walk.
- Brad Suttle was 2 for 6 with his 8th homer, though he also struck out thrice. He has been consistently solid all season (when healthy), and is showing some good pop. I wouldn't mind seeing what he could do in Tampa, though the strikeouts (52 in 51 games) are too high for my liking.
- Austin Romine was 0 for 5. His average is down to .275.
- Jesus Montero was 1 for 5 with a double, dropping his average to .295.
- Brandon Laird was 2 for 5 with a double.
- Justin Snyder was 1 for 4 with a walk and his 21st error. Watch out Carmen, you've got competition in the errors department.
- Speaking of Angelini, he was 0 for 4 with a walk and 2 strikeouts.
- Prilys Cuello was 1 for 5.
- Austin Krum was 2 for 4 with a double, a walk, and a steal.
- David Phelps started, surrendering 4 runs (3 earned) on 7 hits and 2 walks in 3 2/3 innings.
- Raymond Kruml was 2 for 3 to bring his average up to .341. He also stole 2 bases, giving him 10 on the season, and was caught for the 2nd time.
- Brian Baisley was 1 for 3, dropping his average to .339.
- Braedyn Pruitt was 1 for 4.
- Taylor Grote and Addison Maruszak were each 1 for 3. Grote is at .217, and Maruszak is hitting an even .333.
- Dickson Marquez was not at his best, giving up 5 runs (4 earned) on 8 hits in 5 1/3 innings.
- Ronny Marte, Ryan Flannery, and Michael Obradovich combined for 3 2/3 perfect innings of relief.
- Jose Pirela was 0 for 5 with his 2nd error.
- Corban Joseph continued to hit, going 3 for 4 with a double and a walk, to bring his average up to .236. Joseph is hitting .351 in his last 9 games, so maybe he is finally getting adjusted to pro pitching and wood bats.
- Mike Jones, Chad Gross, and Zoilo Almonte were each 1 for 5.
- Chase Weems was 2 for 4 with his 1st home run, a walk, and his 1st steal.
- Jimmy Paredes was 1 for 4, and made his 8th error of the season.
- Neall French was 2 for 2 with a walk.
- Chris Smith was 1 for 3 to bring his average up to .167.
