Scranton over Pawtucket, 5-2
  • Ian Kennedy was solid again, giving up 2 runs on 6 hits and a walk in 7 innings of work, and striking out 6.  With Darrell Rasner's recent mediocrity, could Kennedy get the call soon?  I would think so.
  • Scott Patterson got the save, striking out 2 and allowing 2 hits in 2 scoreless.
  • Brett Gardner was 0 for 5.
  • Bernie Castro was 3 for 5, but was caught stealing.
  • Matt Carson was 2 for 5 with a double to raise his average to .301.  He also stole a base
  • Juan Miranda was 2 for 4 with a walk, and is up to .303.
  • Ben Broussard was 2 for 5 with a double and a homer.
Both of Trenton's games against Portland were rained out Tampa loses to Lakeland, 2-1 (7 innings, game 1)
  • Ryan Pope started, and despite pitching well took the loss.  In 6 innings, Pope gave up 2 runs (both on solo homers) on 4 hits and 2 walks, and struck out 3.
  • Grant Duff pitched a perfect 7th and struck out 1.
  • Luis Nunez was 1 for 4 with 2 walks and a stolen base.
  • Eduardo Nunez was 1 for 4.
  • Andres Perez had the only other hit, going 1 for 2 with a triple.
Tampa loses to Lakeland again, 4-2
  • Jason Stephens started, giving up 4 runs on 9 hits and a walk in 6 innings, and striking out 3.
  • Michael Obradovich, promoted from the GCL, struck out the side in a perfect 7th.
  • Mitch Hilligoss and Kevin Smith were both 1 for 3 with a double.
  • Josh Kreuzer and Kyle Anson were boht 1 for 3.
  • Seth Fortenberry was 3 for 3 with a double.
Charleston defeats Greenville, 9-3
  • Lance Pendleton was the starter, giving up 2 runs on 9 hits and a walk in 5 innings, and striking out 7.
  • Chase Vacek pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings.
  • Justin Snyder and Austin Romine were both 0 for 5.
  • Brad Suttle was 1 for 5 with a solo homer.
  • Jesus Montero, catching today was 4 for 5 with 2 doubles and his 13th home run.  With this outburst, Jesus raised his average to .316 on the season.  His OPS is up to a lofty .840.  He is hitting .333 in his last 10 games,
  • Austin Krum was 2 for 4.
  • Brandon Laird continued to rake, going 2 for 4 with his 15th home run and a double.
  • Carmen Angelini was 1 for 4, raising his average to .235 on the season.
  • Prilys Cuello was 3 for 4 with a triple, a homer, and a stolen base.  He seems to have moved to leftfield for the long term, or at least in deference to Snyder.
Staten Island falls to Brooklyn, 5-3
  • Casey Erickson started, giving up 2 runs on 6 hits, and striking out 3 in 5 2/3 innings.
  • Brad Rulon gave up a run on a hit and 2 walks in 2 innings, striking out 4.  This outing raised Rulon's ERA to 0.63, as it was only his 2nd run allowed this season.
  • Pat Venditte struck out 3 and walked 2 in 3 scoreless innings.  Venditte, who had not pitched since July 24th due to illness (I think) made his return in style.  The Rulon-Venditte combo should help the Yankees reliably close out games.
  • Addison Maruszak and David Adams were each 2 for 6.  Maruszak's average is up to .324 on the season.
  • Brian Baisley was 1 for 4.
  • Jack Rye was 1 for 5 with a walk and a homer off the Met's sandwich-round pick, Brad Holt.
  • Ben Blumenthal was 1 for 1 with a double.
  • Steven Strasbaugh was 2 for 4 with a double.
  • Taylor Grote was 1 for 5.
The GCL Yankees were off tonight.
