02 August 2008
- Billy Traber started, giving up a hit and a walk in 2 scoreless.
- Mark Melancon gave up a run on a hit and a walk in 2 innings of work, and struck out 3.
- Phil Coke, recently promoted to AAA, gave up 3 runs on 3 hits and a walk in 1 1/3 innings of work.
- Scott Strickland blew the save, giving up 3 runs on 3 hits and 2 walks in 2/3 of an inning.
- Brett Gardner was 1 for 4 with his 36th steal of the season.
- Juan Miranda was 1 for 3 with a walk and his 9th homer of the season. He is hitting .400 in his last 10 ames.
- Ben Broussard was also 1 for 3 with a homer and a walk.
- Greg Porter was 1 for 4.
- Michael Gardner started, giving up a hit and 3 walks in 3 shutout innings.
- Anthony Claggett won despite giving up 2 runs on 4 hits and a walk in 3 innings, while striking out 2.
- Reegie Corona was 1 for 2 with 2 steals and 2 walks.
- Ramiro Pena was 1 for 2 with a walk.
- Austin Jackson was 2 for 3 with a double.
- Chris Malec, Colin Curtis, and Frank Muich were each 1 for 3.
- Kevin Russo was 1 for 3 with a double.
- Seth Cooper was 1 for 4.
- Alan Horne made a rehab start, and continued to struggle. In 2 1/3 innings, Horne gave up 6 runs on 6 hits and 2 walks, and struck out 3. It is apparent that there might be something seriously wrong with him, and I think it might be best to just shut him down for the rest of the season, and let him get over his dead arm with rest.
- Luis Nunez and Andres Perez were 2 for 5. Nunez also stole a base.
- Eduardo Nunez and Kevin Smith were 3 for 5 with a double.
- Josh Kreuzer was 1 for 4 with a double.
- Seth Fortenberry was 2 for 4 with a double and a solo shot.
- Kyle Anson was 1 for 5 with a double.
- Matt Cusick, making his Yankee debut, was 0 for 2. It seems that they decided to promoted him to high-A ahead of Snyder.
- Mitch Hilligoss was 1 for .
- Tim Battle was 2 for 5 with a triple, raising his average to .257.
- Carl Pavano started, giving up a run on 5 hits in 3 innings of work, striking out 2 in the process.
- Phil Hughes, also rehabbing, outpitched Pavano, giving up just a hit and a walk in 3 2/3 dominant innings, and striking out 5. He looks ready to move up to high-A or AA, though they Yankees will take it slow with him. Hughes was apparently throwing very hard, hitting 101 on what must have been a very juiced gun. More likely, he was hitting 95 or so, which is not too shabby for his 2nd rehab outing of the season.
- Justin Snyder was 0 for 5.
- Brad Suttle was 2 for 4 with a double.
- Austin Romine and Jesus Montero were each 1 for 4.
- Austin Krum was 2 for 4 with a home run.
- Brandon Laird was 2 for 4 with 2 homers, giving him 14 on the season. Despite his less than impressive .262 average, Laird has shown some impressive home run power this season.
- Carmen Angelini was 0 for 3 with a walk.
- Abe Almonte was 2 for 4 with a double and a homer to raise his average to .233. Abe has almost half as many hits in his first 3 games in August as he did in the entire month of July, so clearly he is glad to see the calendar turn over.
- Nick Montgomery started, pitching very well to the tune of 5 scoreless innings, allowing 3 hits and a walk and striking out 4.
- Jacinto Gonell struck out 2 in 2 perfect innings.
- Brad Rulon pitched 2/3 of a perfect inning to lower his ERA to 0.34 on the season. He has given up just 1 run in 26 2/3 innings, with 38 strikeouts against 11 walks in that span. Domination.
- Addison Maruszak was 3 for 5 with a double and a triple, raisng his average to .324 on the season.
- David Adams was 1 for 4 with a walk and his 3rd homer of the season.
- Brian Baisley was 2 for 5, and is hitting .339 on the year.
- Daniel Brewer and Taylor Grote were each 1 for 4 with a double.
- Marcos Vechionacci, rehabbing from injury, was 2 for 3 with a double in his return.
- Erik Lovett was 1 for 3 with a double.
