Scranton defeats Lehigh Valley, 9-6.
  • Phil Hughes got the start and was not good at all, allowing 5 runs on 8 hits in his 3 2/3 innings of work. He threw 91 pitches in that span and also struck out 4. Even with the bad outing, I still think Phil gets called up to make his next start, as the Yankees don't have a starter slated to pitch next Thursday against Roy Halladay and the Blue Jays. Phil is rehabbing, and he hasn't pitched in a while so maybe this still feels like spring training for him. He'll be fine.
  • Zach Kroenke allowed a hit and a walk but no further in his 3 innings of shutout relief.
  • Melky Cabrera (never heard of him) was 1 for 1 with 4 walks. Seems like he knows how to take pitches. He might have the best eye in the system.
  • Matt Carson was 1 for 5.
  • Juan Miranda was 3 for 5 with a homer, his 10th of the season.
  • Shelley Duncan was 2 for 3 with a 2 doubles and 2 walks.
  • Eric Duncan was 3 for 5.
  • Chad Moeller was 4 for 5 with a double.
Trenton beats Reading, 11-7.
  • Rehab Resident Carl Pavano got the start and was pretty good. In 6 innings of work, Carl allowed a solo shot and 5 other hits while only walking 1 batter. He also had 6 strikeouts. Who knows? Maybe we'll see Carl at the beginning of September.
  • Reegie Corona was 1 for 5.
  • Francisco Cervelli was 2 for 3 with 2 walks. He's now batting .394!
  • Austin Jackson and Chris Malec were each 1 for 4 with a walk and a strikeout.
  • Colin Curtis was 2 for 5 with a double and a homerun, his 7th.
  • Kevin Russo was 4 for 4 with a double.
  • Edwar Gonzalez was 2 for 5 with 2 more homeruns. That's 4 homers in the past 3 games.
Tampa edges Lakeland, 4-3.
  • Alan "I should be shut down for the season" Horne got the start and allowed 3 runs on 6 hits and a walk in 3 innings of work. He also had 2 strikeouts. Hey, at least he had a 5-2 groundout-flyout ratio.
  • Zach McAllister, coming out of the 'pen in deference to the rehabbing Horne (and probably as a way to limit his innings as well) got the save by continuing his impressive pitching.  In 4 shutout innings, McAllister gave up just a hit and a walk, while striking out 2.  His ERA in Tampa dropped to 1.94 with this outing, as he continues to dominate FSL hitters.
  • Luis Nunez was 1 for 2 with 3 walks.
  • Seth Fortenberry was 1 for 3 with 2 walks.
  • Tim Battle was 1 for 4.
