Scranton falls to Lehigh Valley, 5-4
  • Kei Igawa was the starter, and gave up 3 runs on 7 hits and a walk in 6 2/3 innings, striking out 3 and surrendering 2 home runs.
  • Steven Jackson gave up a hit and a walk in 1 1/3 scoreless.
  • Mark Melancon took the loss, giving up 2 runs on 2 hits and a walk in 1 inning of work.
  • Matt Carson, Shelley Duncan, and Chad Moeller were each 1 for 4.  Duncan also walked.
  • Eric Duncan and Juan Miranda were each 1 for 5.
  • Jason Lane was 1 for 3 with his 16th home run and a walk.
  • Ben Broussard was 3 for 4 with a double, raising his average to .275.
  • Chris Basak was 2 for 4.
Trenton tops Reading, 9-2
  • Jason Jones was the starter, and pitched very effectively.  Through 6 scoreless, Jones gave up just 4 hits and 2 walks, and k'd 4.  He lowered his ERA to 2.89 on the season with this outing.
  • Reegie Corona was 1 for 6.
  • Francisco Cervelli was 1 for 3 with a double and was hit by Adam Eaton twice.  He is hitting .360 since he returned to AA, and apparently the time off hasn't ruined his timing at the plate.
  • Kevin Russo was 2 for 5.
  • PJ Pilittere was 2 for 5 with a homer.
  • Cody Ehlers was 1 for 5 with a home run.
  • Edwar Gonzalez was 3 for 5 with 2 bombs, giving him 11 in AA, and 17 on the season.  He is hitting .276 in Trenton.
Tampa shuts out Clearwater, 1-0 (7 innings, game 1)
  • Chris Garcia started for the Yankees and was superb.  In 5 scoreless innings, Garcia gave up just 2 hits and no walks, and struck out 7.  If Garcia can stay healthy next season, he could fly through the upper minors, as he is fully capable of putting up more performances like today.
  • Mike Dunn got the win, walking 2 and striking out 2 in 1 1/3 scoreless.
  •  Hideki Matsui, rehabbing, was 1 for 3 with a solo home run that was the difference in the game.
  • Eduardo Nunez was 1 for 3.
  • Kevin Smith was 1 for 2 with a double.
  • Mitch Hilligoss was 1 for 2.
Tampa clobbers Clearwater, 9-1 (7 innings, game 2)
  •  Wilkins de la Rosa continued his dominant pitching, pitching 6 innings of 1-run ball, and surrendering 5 hits and no walks while striking out 8.  So far, de la Rosa has handled the promotion to Tampa with ease, as he has a 1.59 ERA there after 2 starts.  He's having a major breakout season, and has improved his prospect stock tremendously.
  • Luis Nunez and Tim Battle were each 1 for 4.  Battle's hit was a double.
  • Hideki Matsui was 0 for 2.
  • Eduardo Nunez and Seth Fortenberry were each 2 for 4.  Nunez is hitting .279 on the season, and Fortenberry is at .267.
  • Josh Kreuzer was 3 for 4 with a double.
  • Kyle Anson was 1 for 2 with a walk.
  • Mitch Hilligoss was 2 for 3.
Charleston over Lakewood, 7-5
  • Lance Pendleton started, and gave up 4 runs on 9 hits and 5 walks in 5 innings.
  • Chase Vacek and Craig Heyer each struck out 2 in a perfect inning of work.
  • Jonathan Ortiz gave up a run on 2 hits, but also struck out 3 in 1 inning.
  • Justin Snyder was 0 for 3 with 2 walks.
  • Brad Suttle was 2 for 5 with a double, raising his average to .276.  His .824 OPS is very solid, and he has put together an overall impressive season.
  • Speaking of impressive, Jesus Montero wsa 2 for 3 with his 15th home run, and also walked twice.  His OPS is up to a lofty .866.
  • Austin Romine was 1 for 4 with a double, and is hitting .284.
  • Austin Krum was 1 for 3 with 2 walks.
  • Carmen Angelini was 1 for 5.
  • Abe Almonte was 2 for 5, movign his average up to .232.
  • Dave Williams was 1 for 3.
Staten Island's game against Vermont was postponed.  Tragic. GCL Yanks beaten by Braves, 3-2 (7 innings, game 1)
  • Francisco Rondon started, and gave up 3 runs on 3 hits and 3 walks in 4 2/3 innings, while striking out 6.
  • Dickson Marquez relieved, and pitched 2 1/3 innings of 1-run ball.
  • Corban Joseph was 0 for 2 with a walk.
  • Kyle Higashioka was 1 for 3, raising his average to .360.
  • Kelvin Castro and Zoilo Almonte were each 1 for 3 with a double.
GCL Yanks blanked by Braves, 3-0
  • Nik Turley started, giving up a run on 2 hits in 1 1/3 innings.
  • Emerson Landoni was 1 for 4.
  • Corban Joseph and Jimmy Paredes were each 1 for 3.  Joseph's average is up to .283, and Paredes's is at .298.
  • Chase Weems and Roy Gomez were also 1 for 3.
  • Alvaro Ramirez was 2 for 2 with a walk.
That's all for tonight.  I'll update if there is any new draft signing news, but at this point, Cole, Bittle, and any other unsigned guys are probably headed to school.  Maybe something shocking will happen and prove me wrong.  I still can't get over the fact that the Yankees' highest draft bonus was $850,000, and teams like Kansas City are shelling out multiple million dollar bonuses. Cole is the most talented draft pick since Mark Prior (#40 overall out of high school) that the Yankees have been unable to sign, and it'll be interesting to see how Cole does in the talented Pac 10.  He will likely be in the UCLA rotation from the beginning, adn could be their ace by the end of his freshman year.  Aaron Crow was the only other 1st-rounder not to sign, turning down 3.3 million from the Nats to likely go play for the Fort Worth Rock Cats in Indy Ball.  Crow's non-signing means that the Yankees' compensation pick will be the 30th in the first round.
