A long and strange saga has finally come to a close.  Prematurely reported to have signed with the Indians several times by a variety of sources, it has been officially announced that the 16 year-old phenom will be signing with the Yankees for 3 million dollars.  Rather than sign with the team that he had been connected to for months, Salcedo decided to follow his heart, and join his favorite team.  It is interesting that the Yankees announced the signing of Salcedo at a time when his age has been called into question, but maybe they know something that the rest of us don't.  Likely, they were not worried about the age questions, and possibly thought him talented enough to take the risk on anyway.  Finally there is some kind of resolution to this ridiculous story.  Over-hyped though he may be, this is exactly the kind of risk that the wealthy Yankees should be taking.  Of course Boras's hype of Salcedo as the next A-Rod is probably excessive and unfair, but players with this level of talent don't come around very often.  Salcedo, who might go directly to the GCL this summer, should be a great addition to the Yankees' farm system, and challenge Carmen Angelini to be the Yankees' shortstop of the future.
