- Kei Igawa started, and was solid. On one hand, he allowed 4 runs, 3 earned, on 5 hits and 2 walks. On the other hand, he struck out 9. Ask yourself the question: How good does Kei Igawa have to pitch in order to earn his way back to the majors? How does 10.00 K/9 sound?
- Chris Britton pitched a scoreless inning, allowing a hit and a walk.
- Sean Henn allowed a run in one inning.
- Edwar Ramirez continued his filthy pitching, striking out two in a perfect inning. He hadn't struck out a batter in 2 outings, but has allowed just 3 hits and 2 walks in 11 1/3 innings between Triple-A and the majors. That would be ridiculous even without the 15 strikeouts.
- Shelley Duncan was 2 for 4 with a home run.
- Eric Duncan was 0 for 4.
- Juan Miranda was 2 for 4 with a double.
- Brett Gardner was 1 for 5, but the hit was a home run. After hitting 8 triples and 1 home run last year, Gardner already has 2 home runs and 4 triples. How long can the Yankees justify holding him back?
- Chase Wright allowed 4 runs, 3 earned, in 5 innings. He struck out 2 and walked 1.
- Mike Gardner allowed a run in 2 1/3 innings.
- David Robertson came in for 5 batters, and struck out 4 of them. The 5th out was a ground ball to 2nd base. David Robertson now has 21 strikeouts in 14 innings, or 13.50 per 9. It looks like Robertson is vindicating my decision to make him a top-15 prospect on my list this year.
- Colin Curtis was 4 for 5 with a triple and a double. Quietly, he's hitting .301/.381/.422.
- Austin Jackson was 1 for 5 with a double.
- Cody Ehlers was 2 for 4 with a home run.
- Jose Tabata was 1 for 3 with 3 HBP.
- Ivan Nova continued with his "hittable" status, allowing 6 runs in 4 2/3 innings. He struck out 4 and walked 3.
- J.B. Cox pitched another scoreless inning, striking out 1.
- Tampa had just 3 hits. Seth Fortenberry, Jose Gil, and Damon Sublett each had one.
- Zach McAllister was perfect, allowing just 2 hits and a walk in 6 scoreless innings. He struck out 2 with a 9/5 GO/AO ratio.
- Wilkins De La Rosa pitched a scoreless inning with one strike out.
- Jesus Montero, catching, was 1 for 4 with a double. He also threw out both runners who attempted to steal on him.
- Brandon Laird and Carmen Angelini were 1 for 4.
- Justin Snyder, Abraham Almonte, and David Williams are 0 for 4.
