Wins all around except for Trenton, who losses a squeaker. Scranton beats Charlotte, 4 to 2.
  • Darrell Rasner allowed just 2 runs, 1 earned, in 5 innings. He struck out 6 and walked 3. We're seeing his major league pitch count problems surface in the minor leagues again - he only allowed 7 base runners,  but still required 100+ pitches just to get through 5 frames. Its the reason why he's only really a bullpen option as a replacement player.
  • Heath Phillips pitched the first two inning in relief, allowing one of Rasner's  runners to score on an error, but other than that he allowed just one walk.
  • Scott Patterson came in, pitching a perfect inning with 2 strikeouts.
  • Jose Veras finished the day, pitching an undemocratic scoreless inning after allowing 2 walks and getting 2 strikeouts.
  • Despite going 0 for 3 with no walks, Brett Gardner still managed to score 2 runs.
  • Juan Miranda had the big night, going 2 for 4 with a home run. He's slowly heating up.
  • Justin Christian, demoted to hitting 8th, went 2 for 4 with a double, but was also caught trying to steal 3rd.
  • Both Duncans and Jason Lane were hitless on the night.
Altoona edges out Trenton, 8 to 7.
  • Lefty Phil Coke got hammered, allowing 6 runs in 5 innings. He walked 2 and struck out 2.
  • Mike Gardner blew the game, allowing 2 runs in the 7th inning. He finished out the 8th with a scoreless inning, but Trenton would not rebound for the win.
  • Jose Tabata was 2 for 4 with 2 doubles. He's now 4 for his last 11 with two walks, hitting .363/.461/.545 in the series against Altoona. Tales of his demise are greatly exaggerated.
  • Austin Jackson was 2 for 4.
  • Reegie Corona, batting leadoff after starting the season at the bottom of the order, was 0 for 3 with 2 walks and a caught stealing.
  • Marcos Vechionacci was 1 for 2 with 2 walks.
  • Colin Curtis was 1 for 4 with a double.
Tampa beats Dunedin, 6 to 1.
  • Ryan Pope, whose innings I am convinced the Yankees are capping right now, pitched 5 dominant innings, allowing 1 run on 4 hits and 1 walk. He struck out 8. He's got to be either on a pitch count or innings cap, because he's averaging less than 5 innings per start with a WHIP of 1.00. Regardless, its hard not to be thrilled with his performance thus far.
  • Mark Melancon, after getting hammered in his last appearance, pitched 2 scoreless innings. He allowed 1 hit, with no walks or strikeouts.
  • Damon Sublett was 2 for 4 with a walk.
  • Mitch Hilligoss was 2 for 5.
  • Eduardo Nunez was 3 for 5 with a double.
  • Our old friend Tim Battle went 2 for 5 with a home run. I'm still waiting for the pitcher conversion.
Charleston beats Savannah, 6 to 5.
  • Noel Castillo started, pitching 7 innings and allowing 3 earned runs. He struck out 3 and did not walk a batter.
  • Justin Snyder continued his torrid hitting, going 2 for 4 with a double and a triple. The triple was turned into an inside-the-park home run after a fielding error. He also walked twice.
  • Jesus Montero, acting as the team's DH, was 2 for 4 with a HBP.
  • Austin Romine was 2 for 5 with a double. Very quietly, Romine is 9 for his last 19 with 3 doubles and 2 walks.
  • Brandon Laird, David Williams, Abraham Almonte, and Carmen Angelini were all hitless. Angelini did draw a walk.
The Over/Under on Snyder's promotion to Tampa is May 15th. I'll take the over.
