Scranton annihilates Durham, 16-5
  • Jeff Marquez got the start and was effective, allowing 3 runs, 4 hits (2 HR), and 2 walks in his 5 1/3 innings of work. He was also able to strike out 2 in his 79 pitch outing.
  • Scott Patterson did not allow a run his 2/3 of an inning of relief.
  • Heath Phillips struggled, allowing 2 runs on 2 walks and 1 hit in 1 2/3 innings of relief.
  • Brett Gardner was 3 for 4 and was a homerun short of the cycle. He also had a BB.
  • Juan Miranda was 1 for 5 with his first homerun of the season.
  • Shelley Duncan was 3 for 5 with a homerun, double, and walk.
  • Justin Christian was 2 for 4 with a double and 4 RBIs.
  • Jason Lane 1 for 5 with a homerun and a walk. The homerun was his 5th round tripper of the season.
  • Cody Ransom was 3 for 6 with a double.
  • Nick Green and Chris Stewart were both 4 for 6. Green had a homerun and 3 RBIs while Stewart has 2 doubles and 2 RBIs.
Trenton blanks Harrisburg, 4-0
  • Jason Jones got the start and was brilliant. In 7 frames of shutout ball, he only gave up 3 hits and 1 walk while picking up 3 strikeouts in the process. He is yet to allow a run.
  • Michael Gardner was equally as effective in his relief appearance. In 2 innings, he allowed 0 runs on 2 hits and a walk. He also stuck out 2.
  • Austin Jackson was 3 for 4 with a walk. He average now stands at .278.
  • Jose Tabata, Matt Carson, Joseph Muich, and Kevin Russo all went 1 for 4. Carson had a K while Tabata had 2. Muich had a RBI while Russo had 2, both of his RBIs coming on a 2-out 2 run homerun in the 4th inning.
  • Reegie Corona was 0 for 3 with a walk.
  • Marcos Vechionacci was 1 for 3 with a RBI and 2 Ks.
  • Colin Curtis was 0 for 3 with a walk and 2 Ks.
  • Chris Malec was 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and 2 runs scored.
Tampa crushed by Sarasota,10-0
  • Ivan Nova got the start and wasn't as effective as he could be. In 5 innings, he gave up 5 runs (2 earned) on 7 hits. He did have 5 strikeouts and 0 walks, but he wasn't able to bear down following a throwing error by Luis Nunez in the 1st, which led to the unearned runs.
  • J.B. Cox, making his first relief appearance of the season, allowed 1 run on 2 hits in an inning of work. It takes time for Tommy John patients to fully regain their pitching abilities. It's only a matter of time before he finds his groove again.
  • Sean Henn allowed 2 hits but struck out 2 an inning of scorless relief.
  • Jonathan Hovis struck out the side in his inning of scorless relief.
  • Damon Sublett was 1 for 4 with 2 strikeouts and a walk.
  • Tim Battle was 0 for 5 with 3 strikeouts.
  • Mitch Hilligross, Kevin Smith, and Seth Fortenberry all went 0 for 4. They each had a strikeout.
  • Edwar Gonzalez was 1 for 4.
  • Kyle Anson, sensing that Jesus Montero might take his catching job soon enough, was 3 for 3 with 2 doubles and a walk.
  • Josue Calzado was 0 for 3 with 2 strikeouts and a walk.
  • Luis Nunez was 2 for 4.
Charleston slips past Rome in 11 innings, 4-3
  • Zachary McAllister got the start and was excellent, striking out 7 and issuing 0 walks in his 7 innings of work. He gave up 3 runs (2 earned) on just 5 hits. However, he did not factor in the decision.
  • Jason Stephens, who followed Zach, was brilliant as he struck out 5 in 3 innings of relief. He only allowed 2 hits in that span.
  • Justin Snyder was 0 for 5.
  • Abraham Almonte was 0 for 4 with a walk and 2 Ks.
  • Jesus Montero, catching, hit the game winning RBI double that plated in Carmen Angelini (pinch running for Brad Suttle who was injured while stretching his hit to a double). He finished 1 for 5 with the RBI double and a K.
  • Brad Suttle was 2 for 5 with a double and a strikeout.
  • Brandon Laird was 3 for 4.
  • Dave Williams was 1 for 4 with a double and a RBI.
  • Austin Romine, dhing, was 3 for 4 with a RBI and 2 runs scored.
  • Walter Ibarra and Austin Krum each went 0 for 4. Ibarra had 2 strikeouts while Krum had 1.
Today was definitely a better day for the Yankees affiliates (except for Tampa and the big league club). Kei Igawa (SWB-AAA), Chase Wright (Treton-AA), Eric Hacker (Tampa-High A), and Dellin Betances (Charleston-Low A) all start tomorrow. Hopefully, Suttle's injury is not too serious.
