Definitely, a better day as all the affiliates won their games. Scranton slips past Rochester, 1-0.
  • Dan Giese got the start and was solid, allowing no runs on 3 hits in 5 innings. He struck out 4 and walked 1. Since he's a reliever and starting in place of Alan Horne, the Yankees didn't want to stretch him although he was dealing. He only needed 71 pitches for the five frames, and he was able to have a 8-3 GB-FB ratio.
  • Phillips struck out 2 in his 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.
  • Jose Veras notched his 4th save and struck out 2 in an inning of relief.
  • Brett Gardner was 1 for 3.
  • Shelley Duncan was 0 for 2 with 2 walks.
  • Greg Porter was 1 for 4 with a double.
  • Bernie Castro was 2 for 4.
  • Nick Green was 1 for 3
  • Jason Lane, Cody Ransom, Eric Ducan, and Chris Stewart all were hitless.
Trenton beats New Britain in 11 innings, 5-3.
  • George Kontos got the start and allowed 3 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits in 5 innings. He walked 2 and struck out 4.
  • Mike Gardner struck out 4 in his 3 shutout innings. He allowed 2 hits and 2 walks.
  • Eric Wordekemper struck out 1 in his scoreless inning of relief.
  • Ramiro Pena was 2 for 6 with a homerun and 2 RBIs.
  • Jose Tabata was hitless in 4 at bats. He drew a walk and struck out 3 times.
  • Austin Jackson was 1 for 4 with a triple and 2 walks.
  • Colin Curtis was 1 for 5 with a double and a RBI.
  • Marcos Vechionacci and Reegie Corona each were 1 for 4.
  • Matt Carson was 2 for 4 with a homerun and a walk.
Tampa shuts out Lakeland, 3-0.
  • Eric Hacker was impressive as he allowed just a single hit in his 6 innings of shutout ball. He struck out 6 and walked none. He was trully dominant, sporting a 12-1 GB-FB ratio while lowering his ERA to 1.04. Hacker pitched against stud pitching prospect Rick Porcello, who gave up 2 runs on 4 hits and 1 walk in 6 innings.
  • Mark Melancon was effective in his 2 innings of shutout relief. He allowed only 2 hits and struck out 2 but his GB-FB ratio was 0-4. Still, Mark is getting better by the day.
  • J.B. Cox pitched a shutout inning. He allowed 2 walks but he did have 3-0 GB-FB ratio.
  • Damon Sublett was 2 for 4 with a double, a triple, and a RBI.
  • Mitch Hilligoss was 1 for 4.
  • Kyle Anson was 1 for 4 with a RBI.
  • James Cooper was 1 for 2 with a double.
  • Edwar Gonzalez, Seth Fortenberry, and Josue Calzado all were hitless.
Charleston shuts out Columbus, 6-0.
  • Dellin Betances would have easily had one of his his best starts of the season if it weren't for all the walks. In 5 innings, Dellin allowed 2 hits and struck out 5, but he walked 5 batters in that same span. He pitched well no doubt, but the walks took some luster off his performance.
  • Wilkins De La Rosa walked 2 in 2 innings of hitless relief, and also struck out 3.
  • Chase Vacek allowed a hit and a walk in his inning of scoreless relief.
  • Abraham Almonte was 2 for 5 with a triple, a homerun, and 4 RBIs.
  • Jesus Montero and Gerald Laird were hitless.
  • Justin Synder and Walter Ibarra each were 1 for 3. Justin had 2 walks.
  • Austin Romine, dhing, was 2 for 4 with a double, raising his average to .364.
  • David Williams was 2 for 4 with a RBI.
  • Austin Krum was 1 for 5.
Hmmm... I wonder if a quick footed centerfielder and a power hitting firstbaseman could apply a much needed boost for a lethargic and weak-hitting big league club.
