The New York Times is reporting that the Yankees have signed starting pitcher Runelvys Hernandez, who was previously 0-3 with a 3.06 ERA for AAA Pawtucket in the Boston system. Hernandez had a clause in his contract that allowed him to become a free agent if he wasn't promoted to the big league club. Runelvys will likely join the rotation for AAA Scranton, which has been depleted by the promotions of Phil Hughes, Tyler Clippard and Matt DeSalvo (who is now back in Scranton). Runelvys could be a decent injury fill-in if Clemens is unable to make his next start or someone in the rotation goes down, but if you look at his career statistics, they are far from impressive.
