Scranton defeated by Durham
  • Steven White made the start, and was not impressive, giving up 5 hits, 5 walks and 3 runs in 4 innings.  White also struck out 5, but that 1:1 strikeout to walk ratio can't continue if White is going to have any future as a prospect.
  • Ben Kozlowski, the bullpen workhorse, pitched 3 1/3 innings,  allowing 1 run on 2 hits and 1 walk while striking out 5.
  • Kevin Thompson was 1 for 3 with a walk, and his average is up to .278.
  • Andy Phillips was owned by Jeff Niemann, going 0 for 4 with 3 strikeouts.
  • Shelley Duncan was 1 for 4, driving in the Yankees' only run.  Shelley also struck out twice.
  • Bronson Sardinha was 1 for 3 with a double
Trenton beats Reading, 7-1
  • Jason Jones started and pitched very well, pitching 7 innings of one-run ball while striking out 3, walking 1, and allowing 3 hits.
  • Scott Patterson pitched 2 innings of scoreless relief.
  • Brett Gardner returned to the lineup, going 1 for 4 with a walk and (of course) a stolen base.
  • Cody Ehlers was 1 for 4 with a homer, only his first in what has been a disappointing season for him after a great year in Trenton.
  • Justin Christian was 1 for 3 with a walk and 2 strikeouts.
Tampa falls to Palm Beach, 9-1
  • Daniel McCutchen got the start, but was smacked around by Tampa to the tune of 9 hits and 6 runs in 5 innings. Despite this less than impressive performance by McCutchen, he did strike out 7 without allowing any walks.
  • 18 year-old Prilys Cuello, filling in for Kevin Russo in his minor league debut, went 0 for 4 with 2 strikeouts. This is to be expected of a teenager in high-A making his stateside debut. I am interested to see how he will do in his stint in Tampa before he is reassigned to the GCL.
  • Tim Battle and Colin Curtis were each 1 for 4.
  • Juan Miranda returned to the lineup, and was 1 for 4.
  • Marcos Vechionacci was 3 for 4, bringing his average up to .250.
  • Francisco Cervelli had a rare hitless game, going 0 for 4, and his average is down to .315.
Charleston defeats Colombus, 4-1
  • Hector Noesi started, and was very effective, allowing just 1 run on 3 hits and 1 walk in 5 innings.  Hector also struck out 5.
  • Jon Hovis picked up his 12th save with a perfect 9th, striking out 2.  His ERA is now 1.98, which makes me wonder if he will be promoted to Tampa soon.
  • Mitch Hilligoss was 1 for 4 with a double, and is now hitting .316.
  • Austin Jackson, who has hit well of late, was 0 for 4 with a strikeout.
  • Eduardo Nunez and Wilmer Pino were each 1 for 4 with a strikeout apiece.
That's all for tonight, but expect to see a closer look at some of the Yankee draft picks tomorrow.
