Scranton falls to Buffalo, 6-2
  • Tyler Clippard got the start, and had a rough outing. T-Clip only lasted 3 1/3 innings, but he gave up 5 earned runs on 8 hits and 3 walks, while striking out only 1 batter. Tyler's last 2 starts have been mediocre, and it seems like has lost confidence since being demoted to Scranton.
  • Sean Henn pitched 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief, striking out 2 while allowing a hit and a walk.
  • Steven Jackson pitched 2 scoreless innings, only allowing 1 walk and also striking out 2 batters.
  • Justin Christian was 1 for 4.
  • Shelley Duncan was 0 for 4 with 2 strikeouts.
  • Eric Duncan was 0 for 2 with 2 walks. While he seems to have forgotten how to hit, at least he can draw walks.
  • Angel Chavez was 1 for 4.
Trenton shut out by Altoona, 2-0 (7 innings, Game 1 of doubleheader)
  • Joba Chamberlain started, and while he didn't have his best command, he still managed to pitch ok. In 5 innings, Joba allowed 2 runs on 5 hits (2 were infield hits) and 4 walks, with 10 strikeouts. I listened to a bit of the game on the radio, and it sounded like Joba was using his slider for many of the strikeouts, and that he was not getting many close calls from the umpire. One would like to see him show better control and keep his pitch count down, but the impressive strikeout rate is good to see.
  • Cody Ehlers was 1 for 2 with a double and a walk.
  • PJ Pilittere was 1 for 3.
  • Gabe Lopez was 2 for 2 with a double.
Trenton hammered by Altoona in Game 2, 11-2
  • Brett Smith, who has been coming back down to earth lately, allowed 5 earned runs in 3 innings on 5 hits and 3 walks. His ERA is still an impressive 2.77, but it's climbing.
  • Brett Gardner was 2 for 4 with a double, and he is now hitting .391 in June.
  • Cody Ehlers was 2 for 2 with a double, and he looks like he's finally starting to adjust to AA pitching.
  • Matt Carson was 1 for 3.

  • Tyler Holiday was 1 for 5 with 2 strikeouts and a stolen base.
  • Matt Morris, Damon Sublett, and Dave Williams were each 1 for 4 with a walk.
  • Isiah Howes was 1 for 4 with a homer, a walk, and 3 strikeouts.
  • Luis Nunez was 2 for 3 with a walk.

GCL Yankees top Indians, 3-2
  • 17 year-old Jairo Heredia got the start, allowing 1 earned run in 4 1/3 innings on 4 hits and no walks. Heredia also struck out 3 batters, and so far this season has a 10:2 k:bb ratio, and he has also kept the ball on the ground (1.8 groundouts/flyout). Anyone this young who is pitching effectively is worth watching, and I look forward to seeing what else Heredia can do throughout the season.
  • The Yanks fielded a boring lineup today, as Cuello, Gerardo Rodriguez and the Almontes were conspicuously absent.
  • Robbit Minor was 1 for 4 with a strikeout.
  • Ryan Wehrle was 1 for 4 with a double.
  • Melky Mesa was 1 for 4 with 2 strikeouts.
That's all for tonight.
