Yankees and...Crawford?

25 June 2007
- Steven White had an impressive outing, going 7 1/3 innings and allowing no runs on 2 hits and 3 walks, while striking out 2. White looks like he's starting to develop some consistency, but his chance to make the Yankee rotation has likely passed him by barring injuries to the Yankee staff. He could be a nice bullpen arm though, or possibly trade bait.
- Jim Brower pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing 2 hits to earn his 14th save.
- Shelley Duncan showed some surprising speed today, going 3 for 4 with a triple and a stolen base (both firsts for the season). I'm not sure what else he has to do to get a call-up, but maybe Cashman will wise up eventually.
- Bronson Sardinha was 1 for 4.
- Eric Duncan was 1 for 4 with a strikeout.
- Alan Horne had another strong outing, and his defense continued to make things more difficult for him. In 5 innings, Alan allowed 2 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits, 1 walk, and 6 strikeouts. The Thunder defense also made 2 errors behind Horne, and a 3rd one in the 7th inning. Alan's ERA is down to 2.39, and I wouldn't mind seeing him in Scranton sometime soon.
- Jason Jones allowed 2 runs in 2 1/3 innings in relief, striking out 3 while giving up 3 hits.
- Brett Gardner was 2 for 4 with a walk, a stolen base (#16), and an outfield assist, but he was also picked off.
- Andy Cannizaro was 1 for 3 with a walk.
- Cody Ehlers was 1 for 4 with a double.
- Juan Miranda continued his hitless streak in AA, going 0 for 2 with 2 walks.
- PJ Pilittere was 1 for 4 with his second home run of the season.
- Daniel McCutchen had another quality start, going 7 innings while allowing 2 runs on 8 hits and 6 strikeouts.
- Austin Jackson was 2 for 5 with a strikeout and a steal.
- José Tabata was 1 for 3 with a walk and a strikeout.
- Edwar Gonzalez was 3 for 5 with a homer.
- Tim Battle was 1 for 4 with a home run in his 2nd straight game. Too bad he's only hitting .204 on the season.
- 2b Walter Ibarra (age 19), playing in his 2nd game of the season, was 2 for 4 with a stolen base. Ibarra was in the GCL last season, and put up a relatively pedestrian line of a .264 average, .376 OBP, and a .668 OPS. Either this is just a temporary promotion to Tampa, or else the Yanks were impressed enough by Ibarra to cause him to skip low-A. I'll let you know if I find out more about him.
- Eric Hacker started for the Riverdogs, and was solid, pitching 6 innings of 2-run ball while allowing 7 hits, 1 walk, and striking out 5
- Jesse Hoover walked 2 in 2 scoreless relief innings.
- Jon Hovis did not give up any runs in the 9th, but did allow 3 inherited runners to score after he came into the game with the bases loaded.
- Mitch Hilligoss was 2 for 5 with his 16th stolen base.
- Seth Fortenberry was 2 for 3 with a homer, a walk, and a steal.
- Eduardo Nunez was 2 for 4.
- Josue Calzado was 1 for 4 with a double.
- Zach McAllister started, and pitched much better than he did in his SI debut. In 4 1/3 innings, Zach allowed 2 runs on 4 hits and 1 walk, while striking out 3. Zach also kept the ball on the ground, allowing 7 ground -ball outs against only 2 fly-outs. This shows that either he is using his 2-seamer again, or he is keeping his 4-seamer down in the zone.
- John Axford got the save by allowing 1 run in 4 innings. He also struck out 2, walked 1, and allowed 4 hits.
- Justin Snyder, playing centerfield, was 1 for 3 with 2 walks and an outfield assist.
- Luis Nunez was 3 for 4 with a double.
- Damon Sublett was 1 for 3 with a double and 2 walks, but thankfully, no errors.
- Dave Williams was 1 for 4 with a double and an outfield assist.
- Austin Krum was 2 for 5 with adouble and a strikeout.
- Ross Ohlendorf, beginning his rehab schedule, pitched 1 2/3 innings to start the game, allowing 1 run on 1 hit, a HBP, and a strikeout.
- Daniel Gil (age 18 ) pitched 3 perfect innings in relief, striking out 2 in the process.
- Dickson Marquez allowed 1 unearned run in 4 innings of relief, striking out 4 while giving up 1 hit and 1 walk.
- Abe Almonte, DHing, got his first GCL hits, going 2 for 5 with a walk, a strikeout, and his 2nd stolen base of the season.
- Prilys Cuello was 1 for 3 with his first homer of the season, and he also walked and struck out.
- Ryan Wehrle was 2 for 4 with a double.
- Zolio Almonte was 1 for 3 with a walk.
- Melky Mesa was 1 for 4 with a homer and a walk, although he also struck out twice.
