Scranton shuts out Buffalo, 5-0
  • Matt DeSalvo got the start, and out-dueled Jeremy Sowers, a strong lefty pitching prospect. In 6 2/3 scoreless innings, Matt walked 4 (too many) while allowing 3 hits and striking out 7.
  • Chris Britton pitchd 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief, striking out 2 in the process.
  • Justin Christina was 1 for 4 with a double.
  • Shelley Duncan was 0 for 4.
  • Bronson Sardinha was 1 for 3.
  • Angel Chavez was 1 for 4 with a double.
  • Omir Santos was 2 for 4 with a homer and 2 RBI. He's now hitting .248 on the season, and making me wonder, is he better than Wil Nieves?
Trenton falls to Altoona, 3-2
  • Ian Kennedy had another effective AA outing, pitching 5 innings of 1-run ball while allowing 3 hits and 2 walks. Kennedy, who also struck out 4, has a 2.77 ERA since being promoted to Trenton, with 30 strikeouts in 26 innings.
  • Jeff Kennard blew the save by allowing 2 runs (1 earned) in 3 innings of relief.
  • Brett Gardner was 2 for 4 with a double, as he continues to hit well in June.
  • Andy Cannizaro was also 2 for 4, and the two of them combined for 4 of Trenton's 6 hits.
  • Juan Miranda was 0 for 1 with a walk before Colin Curtis pinch-hit for him (I have no idea why). Curtis then went 0 for 3.
  • Cody Ehlers was 1 for 4.
Tampa defeated by Daytona, 4-2
  • Anthony Claggett started, and so far, experimenting with him in the rotation has not worked out so well. Tonight, he was ok, allowing 3 runs on 6 hits and 1 walk in 5 innings, and he also struck out 3. His ERA is now 4.25.
  • Reegie Corona was 0 for 2 with a walk.
  • Austin Jackson was 2 for 4 with a double, and he is hitting .500 since being promoted to Tampa.
  • José Tabata, playing DH, was 1 for 4 with 2 strikeouts.
  • Walter Ibarra was 1 for 4 with a double and 3 strikeouts.
Charleston destroyed by Savannah, 11-4.
  • Ivan Nova had a rough outing, allowing 8 runs on 8 hits and 4 walks in 4 innings. He also only struck out 2, continuing to post disturbingly low strikeout rates for a pitcher with good stuff.
  • It was business as usual for Dave Robertson, who allowed 1 hit in 2 scoreless innings while striking out 4. His ERA is down to 0.77, which is Edwar territory.
  • Mitch Hilligoss was 0 for 0 with a walk, before Wilmer Pino pinch-hit for him. Again, I do not know why this happend, and hopefully he's not injured.
  • Eduardo Nunez was 1 for 3 with a double, a steal, and a walk. Nunez also made 2 throwing errors, his 22nd and 23rd of the season.
Staten Island over Hudson Valley, 8-5
  • 2007 draftee Ryan Zink started, and was dominant, allowing just 1 hit and 2 walks in 5 shutout innings. Zink only struck out 1, which indicates that he was probably pitching to contact, and he did so effectively tonight.
  • Angel Reyes had anther ugly outing, although an error by Chase Odenreider didn't help. In 1 2/3 innings, Reyes allowed 3 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits and 3 walks. In 3 innings for SI, Reyes has walked 9, and batters are hitting .385 off him, which indicates that he is struggling mightily with his command.
  • Justin Snyder, starting at 3rd this time (I don't know where Braedyn Pruitt has disappeared to), was on base a 4 times, going 2 for 3 with 2 walks. Justin stole a base, but was also thrown out twice.
  • Damon Sublett was 2 for 3 with a double, a homer, and 2 walks. Damon is 5 for his last 10 with 4 extra-base hits in that span.
  • Dave Williams continued to hit, going 2 for 4 to raise his average to .393.
  • Austin Krum was 1 for 4 with a double.
  • Chase Odenreider was 1 for 3 with a homer and a walk.
  • DJ Hollingsworth was 2 for 4.
GCL Yanks take down the Phillies, 4-2
  • TJ Beam started as part of a rehab assignment, and he was solid, allowing just 1 hit and 1 walk in 2 innings. Beam also struck out 2.
  • Prilys Cuello, at DH and leading off, was 0 for 2 with a walk.
  • Abe Almonte batted and played 2nd, and went 0 for 2 with 2 walks and was caught stealing. While the paucity of hits is not what you'd like to see from him, it is good to see Abe walking, showing good plate discipline.
  • Ryan Wehrle was 1 for 3 with a walk.
  • Zolio Almonte continued to hit, going 2 for 4 with a strikeout.
  • Melky Mesa was 1 for 4 with 2 strikeouts.
  • Andres Dionicio (age 19) was 1 for 3 with a triple and a walk.
  • Mr. Irrelevant 2007 Larry Day was 1 for3 with a double and a walk.
That's all for tonight. Have a good one.
