18th round pick Chris Carpenter, a draft-eligible sophomore starting pitcher from Kent State, made his first start of the summer for the Chatham Athletics of the Cape Cod League. Carpenter pitched 6 innings, allowing 2 earned runs on 5 hits and 3 walks while striking out 6. The Yankees will be closely monitoring Carpenter's performance on the Cape to see how he is pitching, so they can determine how much they are willing to offer him to sign. This was a good first start for Chris, but he's going to need to do even better if he wants to earn sandwich-round money from the Yanks.
