30 July 2007
- Steven White put up his 3rd quality start in 4 outings, giving up 3 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks, while striking out 3.
- Joba Chamberlain made his first relief appearance and dominated, striking out the side with a fastball sitting in the high-90's (touched 100 a few times) and a nasty slider (hit 90 on the Scranton gun). I imagine with this performance, barring a possible Gagne trade, Joba will be in the Bronx within the next week or so.
- Scott Williamson walked 1 and struck out 1 in a scoreless inning of relief.
- Justin Christian was 2 for 4 with a triple and a stolen base.
- Kevin Reese was 1 for 4 with a double.
- Juan Francia was 1 for 3.
- George Kontos had his best outing in a while, giving up just 1 run on 7 hits and 3 walks in 6 innings. Kontos also struck out 8 batters.
- Eric Wordekemper struck out 2 and walked 1 in an inning of scoreless relief, lowering his ERA to 0.72.
- The recently-promoted Eduardo Nunez was 1 for 4 with a walk, 2 steals, and 2 strikeouts.
- Austin Jackson was 2 for 4 with a walk, a strikeout, and a double. It's amazing that he's still keeping this up, and his excellent hitting in Tampa has gone on too long to be called a fluke.
- Jason Giambi was 2 for 5 with 2 strikeouts.
- Marcos Vechionacci was 1 for 4 with a double.
- Francisco Cervelli and Kevin Russo were each 1 for 4. Cervelli struck out 3 times, and Russo once.
- Tim Battle was 1 for 3 with a walk and 2 strikeouts.
- Ryan Pope dominated in his 3rd outing in Staten Island, allowing just 1 hit and 2 walks in 4 innings, while striking out 6. The Savannah College of Art and Design product is a sleeper prospect who the Yanks were obviously high on, and I'm interested to see if he can continue to put up strong numbers.
- Justin Snyder, Taylor Holiday and Braedyn Pruitt were each 1 for 4.
- Damon Sublett was 1 for 3 with a walk and a stolen base.
- Dave Williams was 0 for 3 with a steal.
- Ryan Wehrle, playing 3rd in his NY-P League debut, was 2 for 3 with a double.
- DJ Hollingsworth was 1 for 2.
- Lance Pendleton started, allowing a run on 1 hit and 2 walks in 1 2/3 innings, while striking out 3.
- Jairo Heredia pitched 5 strong innings of relief, allowing 1 run on 3 hits and no walks, while striking out 5. His ERA on the season is 1.82, and he continues to show excellent control and the ability to strike people out.
- Prilys Cuello was 2 for 6 with a double.
- Zoilo Almonte was 1 for 5.
- Brandon Laird was 1 for 3.
- Jesus Montero, catching tonight, was 1 for 3 with a double and a sac fly.
- Wady Rufino was 1 for 3 with 2 walks.
- Andres Perez was 1 for 4.
- Ben Blumenthal was 0 for 3 with a walk.
- Kelvin Castro was 3 for 5 with 2 triples and a stolen base.
- Melky Mesa was 0 for 3 with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts.
