Phil made his first rehab start yesterday, and looked pretty good, allowing no hits while striking out 3 and allowing 2 walks in 2 innings. He threw 20 of 36 pitches for strikes, and reportedly hitting 94 with his fastball. He didn't have any discomfort in his ankle or hamstring, which is very encouraging.
He will make his next rehab start in Trenton this Friday (the 13th, aaaaaaah), and will have at least one more after that in Scranton. Hopefully, if all goes well, Phil could be back in New York sometime in the end of July, and take the consistently mediocre Kei Igawa's spot in the rotation.
The New York Times
reports that former Yankee 1st-round pick CJ Henry is thinking about returning to basketball, and he might go to Kansas (where he had committed before being drafted and signed). If he does become a Jayhawk, he might play with his brother Xavier Henry, the #2 prospect in the class of 2009. I wish CJ the best of luck in his return to basketball, and wished that his baseball career had gone better.
In other news, according to Adam Foster of
Project Prospect Joba Chamberlain's Futures Game teammates were giving him a hard time in the clubhouse because he had recently gotten his nipples pierced. Sorry for giving you guys that mental image, but I thought it was pretty funny to hear. I'm not sure what possessed Joba to think about doing that, but whatever works for him. As long as he keeps pitching well, I don't mind what he does with his body.
