Speedy outfielder Brett Gardner has been promoted to AAA Scranton, and the struggling Bronson Sardinha has been demoted to Trenton to open a spot for Gardner.  On the season, Gardner is hitting .300, with a .392 OBP, 18 steals while only getting caught 4 times, and 33 walks against 32 strikeouts. After struggling in April and May, Gardner has been hot in the summer, hitting .385 with a .940 OPS in June, and .343 with a .925 OPS in July.  While he has yet to hit a homer, he has gotten his fair share of doubles, and with his base-stealing capabilities, he can turn a single or walk into a double.  If Gardner does well in Scranton, he can expect a September call-up to the bigs, where he could serve as a 4th outfielder and pinch-runner.  If the Yanks somehow make the playoffs this season, he could be a dangerous player to keep on the bench for a crucial steal. Hopefully Brett continues to hit, and I'm looking forward to following his progress.
