I'm in a bit of a college baseball frame of mind right now, mostly because the NCAA season just started plus I've been working up my first '07 draft post plus MVP 07 NCAA Baseball comes out next Tuesday (great game, too bad I never made it Omaha in the 06 edition). So in honor of that, I thought I'd take a quick look back at the most amazing offensive performance in baseball - not just college - history, which just so happened to take place 10 years ago. The Player: Lance Berkman The School: Rice University The Numbers:

109 R 41 HR 134 RBI 263 TB .431 BA 1.031 SLG 62 G

Sixty-two games. Not 162, just 62. That's a 107 HR, 350 RBI pace over a full 162 game season. And somehow Berkman wasn't even the first Rice player selected in the '97 draft (Matt Anderson went first overall to the Tigers, Berkman went 16th overall). Amazing what metal bats will do for ya...
