From Pete A. at LoHud.
Torre said the Yankees would probably call up an infielder, a catcher and a few pitchers on Sept. 1. Ian Kennedy is not on the list.
Scranton is going to the playoffs, and under normal circumstances, the Yankees would wait a few days before full-fledged call-ups. However, the team is in a fight for it's life, and  minor league concerns will always come second. Who's coming up? You can be sure that the catcher is Wil Nieves. An infielder? Doug Mientkiewicz is due back soon. The only other infielders on the 40-man are Miranda and Gonzalez, though Andy Cannizaro could also be on his way up. The pitchers are a little harder to predict. Britton has to be on their list.  If he isn't, then the Yankees have no one to blame but themselves when bullpen troubles keep them out of the playoffs. Other pitchers? I can't see the Yankees taking a starter away from Scranton yet, but T.J. Beam would be a good bet, along with one of Jim Brower or Jose Veras. Some players will have to be cut from the 40-man, since some will be coming off the 60-day DL. Veras and Brower are good candidates, along with Villone and possibly Kevin Thompson. Further along the road, we could see Igawa, Karstens, Wright, Clipp, or even DeSalvo in the majors. For non-40 man callups, look for Cannizaro, Gardner, or Stephen White. The Yankees will also bring up some players to visit before the playoffs, which will almost certainly include Ian Kennedy.
