According to this
article, 24th-round pick Greg Peavey has officially turned down the Yankees' bonus offer, and will attend Oregon State. However, as Peavey will turn 19 before he gets to school, he will be draft-eligible at the end of his sophomore year. I was never expecting Peavey to sign, but he would have been another nice power arm to add to the system.
Rumors from Keith Law's blog (Subscriber only, I can't access it) say that
Andrew Brackman and the Yankees have agreed on a deal with a signing bonus of 3 million, which seems high given the uncertain health of his elbow. However, as long as it's not a major league contract, I'll be happy, even if they are overpaying (paying 750,000 more than they did for Ian Kennedy, and almost 3 times what Joba Chamberlain earned). I'm not sure as to any plans for Brackman after signing (surgery or whatnot) but hopefully he'll do what it takes to get ready to pitch effectively as soon as possible.
Austin Romine has reportedly been around the Yankee complex in Tampa, and it is expected that he will sign as well.
In other news, José Tabata has been placed on the 7-day DL after missing Tampa's last few games. I'm not sure the reason, but I imagine it has to do with his nagging hand and wrist injuries. Will update when I hear more.
