I haven't had a chance to write the weekly recap yet. I'll probably get it up tomorrow morning. You can also look forward to a full Phil Hughes primer for Thursday. Scranton was off today. Trenton beats Connecticut 7-2
  • With Chase Wright gone, Trenton called upon my new favorite darkhorse Scott Patterson to make the start. He didn't disappointed, striking out 5 in 3.2 scoreless innings. He allowed three hits and no walks.  The Yankees should consider promoting their 27 year old find to AAA.
  • Mike Gardner relieved Patterson. He pitched 3.1 innings of shutout baseball, striking out 6 and allowing just 2 hits. Gardner has been electric this season, pitching 10.1 innings with 17 strikeouts against 2 walks. He has allowed 3 runs (2.61 ERA) and an astounding 6.00 GO/AO ratio.
  • Jeff Kennard gave up 2 runs in 2 innings for the save.
  • Brett Gardner was 1-4 with a double and a walk. Another extra base hit, but his average is now down to .207.
  • Cody Ehlers went 2-4 with a double and an RBI. Ehlers has a 6 game hitting streak going, dating back to April 14th.
  • P.J. Pilittere went 1-3 with a walk and a double.
  • Justin Christian went 1-4 and stole his 7th base in 13 games. That's a 75+ pace.
Tampa beats Dunedin 5-4
  • Jose Tabata went 2-4. Hopefully this snapped him out of his slump. He also stole his 6th base, but was caught for the first time this season.
  • Colin Curtis went 2-3 with a home run and a walk.  Good for him.
  • Francisco Cervelli went 2-3 with a walk and a stolen base. Posada's replacement? Maybe, but he'll get a full season at Tampa.
  • Anthony Claggett blew the save by allowing 2 runs in the 9th inning.  He's only managed 1 strikeout in his last 5 and 2/3 innings.
Charleston beat Savannah 6-1
  • Lefty Mike Dunn got the start, and controlled the game for 7.2 innings, allowing only one run. He struck out 6 and allowed two walks. Dunn is only 21 years old, and Chase Wright's rise should tell us not to ignore lefties who find success in A-ball, even if it's late success.
  • Mitch Hilligoss went 1-4 with a double.
  • Seth Fortenberry went 1-3 with a triple and a walk.
  • Eduardo Nunez went 1-4 with a stolen base.
  • Wilmer Pino went 0-4. He's 5 for his last 32.
  • Josue Calzado went 2-4. For all the "five tool" hype he has, Calzado has hit just three extra base hits (all doubles) this season.
