(yesterday Tampa went 20 innings and lost 4-1. Josa Tabata was 0-8. I'm too lazy to do a full write up. Scranton and Trenton were rained out.) Scranton beat Syracuse 4-0 in their first 9 inning game since 4/14
  • Phil Hughes finally replaced his twin brother on the Scranton roster. He didn't miss a beat from where he left off last year, pitching 6 innings of scoreless baseball. He struck out 10, walked none, and allowed just two hits. Only four balls in play left the ground. It took Hughes just 83 pitches. Another start like this and I'm prepared to say that he's ready for the majors. It's too bad that he had his brother show up since March.
  • Alberto Gonzalez was 0-4 with a sac fly.
  • Eric Duncan was 1-4. Shelly Duncan was 0-2 with 2 walks. Jeff Duncan (of Syracuse) was 0-3. Combined, the Duncans struck out 6 times.
  • Bronson Sardinha was 0-3 with a walk.
  • Andy Phillips was 1-3 with a walk.
Trenton's doubleheader was rained out. Trenton hasn't played since April 14th, and have missed 7 games due to rain this season. Tampa loses to Clearwater 5-1
  • Tim Battle, batting 6th for the first time this season, was 2-4. Maybe with the move down in the order the Yankees can take some pressure off Battle.
  • Elvyz Quezada, probably the coolest name in the Yankee system, got the start. He struck out 5 in 4 innings, walking 1 and allowing 2 earned runs.
  • Francisco Castillo made his first appearance of the season, pitching two innings where he allowed just an unearned run. He struck out 3, walked one, and allowed 3 hits. Castillo has started up to this point, but with so much starting pitching, the Yankees decided to send Castillo's great fastball/slider combo to the bullpen. He doesn't have a third pitch, but at just 20 years old it would have been nice to see him continue to try starting. He could become a very strong reliever.
  • Reegie Corona was 1-4 with a walk.
  • Colin Curtis was 1-2 with 2 walks.
  • Juan Miranda was 1-4
  • Jared Greenwood was 0-4. He's batting just .111 on the season. He was never much of a prospect, even though he got some people excited by posting a .800 OPS with a "C" next to his name. The problem? Greenwood isn't really a catcher, he's a DH.
Charleston beat Kannapolis 1-0
  • Lefty Michael Dunn got the start, pitching 6 scoreless innings, striking out 4 and walking one. With the rise of Chase Wright, we probably should learn to not ignore these A-ball fringe lefties. Dunn is 22 years old.
  • David Robertson got the save. He pitched two perfect innings, striking out one. He hasn't given up a run in 9 innings this year, striking out 12. He really should be at Tampa with Melancon down.
  • Wilmer Pino, was 2-5. He has entered the game in a 2-14 slump.
  • Mitch Hilligoss was 1-3 with 2 walks.
  • Seth Fortenberry was 1-4 with a walk.
  • Eduardo Nunez was 0-3
