The Yankees bullpen couldn't be in worse shape right now. Unavailable for today's game are probably Farnsworth, Bruney, Proctor and Vizcaino. So the bullpen tonight consists of Myers (who has pitched two consecutive days), Henn, Rivera, and Britton. I think it's Carl Pavano's throw day, so don't count on any help from our other starters. Andy Pettitte better go long. Who was sent down? Well, it's tough to determine right now. I'm betting that Kevin Thompson is the victim. For some reason, the Yankees just don't want to give Thompson a chance to succeed. All he's done is hit .313/.421/.531 in very limited major league playing time. I don't blame them for sending him down today - someone has to pitch - but I really feel bad for Kevin. He's perfectly capable of being a pretty good major league 4th outfielder, but never gets a chance. Britton should be pretty well ready. He had a really bad spring, but has looked good in limited action this spring. He's pitched three scoreless innings with no walks, three strikeouts, and two hits allowed while serving as Scranton's closer. I've been a big Britton fan since the trade. Britton throws 93ish, with a sharp curveball and impeccable control. He put up Whelan-like strikeout numbers in AA and A+. I think he'll do well in short duty. Kevin Reese will probably take Thompson's place once the Yankee bullpen gets a little rest. Update: It looks like both Mussina and Pavano will head to the DL. Both will be short stints since they will be retroactive. Pavano will probably never pitch again, once he tweaks his left thumb writing a letter, gets shot in the foot, and finds bone chips in his ear. It's too bad, because he was looking great. No word on who will start yet. Hopefully not Chase Wright. Matt DeSalvo is a good bet, with Reese or Bean being pushed to waivers. Another Update: Chase Wright has been called up. I still think it's a mistake, but hopefully I am wrong.
